I've just come across this ad on the Pixmania website for a Zumo500:

www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/506939/art/garmin/zumo-500-deluxe-motorbike.html

Of course the price of £289 is great compared with the £100 more that you have to fork out for the cheapest 550.

I have had a good look at the differences between the 500 and 550 on the Garmin website and the only significant difference is that the 550 has spoken street names.

Am I missing something here or is this the bargain of the year?

it does come with EU mapping
BUT on a disc and not loaded unto unit like the 550.

my zumo 400 was the same.

ISTR that the 500 has less internal memory, not enough for all of Europe whereas the 550 does. You'll need to buy an SD card (cheap as chips) and load it onto there.

Have a look at the spec in my post above
