Without getting the OS maps out, is there any easy way of telling what sort of byway is indicated when you see the sign...

If you can expand on what you need to find out a little, I might be able to help.:nenau

Probably a BOAT, although generally the signs are Red.

Which Council area?

Berkshire are pretty good, sign wise, and have got the Restricted Byway signs where appropriate.

OS Maps are usually accurate, but as you may know are not "Definitive"

Kent. I had a rideout around my area and sad to say I hadn't ever noticed the green "byway" signs before. Mostly to the north of Hythe, Lympne and towards Ashford on the high ground above the Marsh.

The two byways I saw yesterday are marked on the OS map (taken off the net) and are Old London Road and the byway that connects Hythe Road with the yellow Roman Road.

Hi Clive

Please could you tell me where I can find information, tracks or downloadable GPS routes for green lanes or byways in the Berkshire area. I moved in to Bracknell 5 months ago and would like to know where to go and play with my GS.:bounce1

Many thanks

Roberto

This thread is fairly recent. http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102963

Most of these will still be valid http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=53328

An early effort http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=40026

You will need to compare any tracks with a OS Map - tracks previously known as "RUPPs" are now Restricted Byways and may not be used.

Hi Clive

Wow! what an exhaustive work you have been doing :clap very good documented and detailed :thumb
I'm going to be checking more regularly the off road and Thames Valley section to try to join in another of your rides.

Many thanks

Roberto
