I really like my '06 12 GSA, and gonna keep it regardless.

But I don't know what's come over me, but I rode Harley Fat Boy the other day. Loved it. Now seriously thinking about buying one. (I also rode the Fat Bob, but the Fat Boy is the dogs).

However, I don't know much about Harley's; but AFAIK, a Fat Boy represents what Harley is all about, unless I'm mistaken. After all, its what Arnie road in Terminator 2. And I don't care much for the tourers.

Now I know some of you lot have Harleys.

Am I mad? Have I turned gay? Fat Boy? Other Harley? Forget it?

Whaddya think?

Ta.

Go for it, nowt wrong with the bikes, just go go dressing up with the waistcoats, leather chaps, nipple clamps and studded thong. And those tassles on the ends of the handlebars are sh*te and very :ymca

Remember Arnie rode a Mk1 with rigid mounted engine.....and wires to lower him down drops!

Mk2 with rubber mounted engine is sweet, but you will run out of ground clearance pretty quickly, and one front disc is not enough! :beerjug:

...and one front disc is not enough! :beerjug:

I reckon you are right there; but depends how you ride I suppose. I found myself riding it a whole lot more relaxed than on the GS. I gather its possible to retrofit dual discs - recall seeing something on the web about it - no idea if its worth it though.

Not that i'm likely to buy one . . . . but if i DID, , , ,

Night Train !!

Love my low rider to bits, but it is a one trick pony. It's wonderful on warm summer days, bimbling along in a T shirt. I wouldn't be happy with it as my only bike, but as a cherished toy I love it.

I had one in 2001 in Diamond Ice Pearl and it was a Beaute!! Went well for a Harley ,handled better than the road king +road glide I'd had before. Its a great wiew from the saddle onto the big chrome headlight and uncluttered lines make it a classic. If I ever bought a harley again it would be a fat boy. They are easy to look after and keep clean, but neglect it and it looks like shite very quickley especially the wheels if not cleaned often. That to me was the rub,I ended up cleaning it more than riding it ,and dreading being caught in a rainstorm!! Thats why I sold it and bought a GSA1150 and havent looked back since. Its good to do the Harlery thing just to see what the fuss is about ,if you can keep your GSA you'll have a nice balance of bikes!!:thumb

Gotta love the Night Train, I borrowed one for a while and absolutely adored it. Minimal polishing and cleaning, and very very black.

However, the riding position used to kill my back after anything more than an hour.

Love my HD

I have been bitten by the bug as well. They are entirely different to ride and you do ride more slowly and more relaxed than on a GS. I use mine for sunny dry days when I don't want to go far.

There are plenty of organised and less organised groups about to ride with as well. You might want to look at the HDRCGB site (a bit like UKGSer for HD riders). I have ridden mine more this year than I expected.

Try riding one example of the three main models before making the plunge. The glides have a different character, as do the dynas. I surprised myself by ending up with a dyna as that suited me far more than a soft tail.

The Fat Boy can be a bit lost in the crowd once you see a group of HDs together as they haven't changed the overall design much in the model life and so there are always loads of them about.

As for the :ymca thing. The HOG guys dress up like HA at the weekend but I'm a member and I don't so you don't have to either, although it's no more silly than the many GS riders in full TWAT suit, Tour X and motocross boots you see riding to the local cafe on a road at the weekend.

I bought one,but for me it was never as good as the 1958 pan head it replaced.

I did 20,000 mile's on it with out any problem's.

Looking back If I had of bought the Heritage it would have been a better buy at the same price.....But Had I have bought a Road King I think I would still been ridding HD's:thumb

I aggree with Mutley...How many BMW rider's look :ymca...

The Fat Boy is a Excellent looking bike...............Go For It .:beerjug:

I had this one for 6 years and 25,000 miles, it went like the clappers (but it cost a lot to make it do that) I ran it alongside my GS for a few years, chalk and cheese, best of both worlds. No doubt that in the future I'll have another HD, I'd be tempted to get a fat Boy or a Road King next time. I also had a 1200 Sportster for a while, but it wasn't a patch on the FXDX Superglide Sport.

I've just traded my GS in for a Fatbob, at Chester HD.

I was going to keep the GS but there was an ex-demo model there which was just too tempting.

I run a Street Bob alonside my GS and love it,chalk and cheese as someone said but the Harley motor is great and they are very easy to maintain, you do have to watch the finish though, bit like the GS!

My brother has a Superglide sport which handles better and has just bought a 1992 Fat Boy with only 1700 miles on it which looks the dogs.

Fat Boy's hold their money well so if you decide its not for you you won't lose much.

Don't

The biggest problem with HD is the absolutely shocking build quality.

Plus the fact that they are WAY overrated.

I've rented many over the years and would never consider buying one, except for possibly the full monty electraglide.

I'd far rather get something like the new Suzuki C1800RT :

Has the motor from the M1800R ,which is a great bike;

Goes and stops, unlike a Harley, and won't fall apart 100 yards from the showroom.

Only £10k too !

Amased how many of us GSers also run a Harley.
I've got a 2008 heritgae softtail classic and love ot to bits.

Originally wanted a Fat Boy, but they're not good pillion, partly because the rear pegs are located between the cans and the passengers foot gets baked.

Loads of crap talked about regarding biuld quality. ignore, it's almost up there with the GS. but, watch the chrome.

Put a single seat on it, ditch the Village People panniers, back rest and screen and that wouldn't be a bad looking bike :thumb2
