I researched them (600L/650R/L) a couple weeks ago. Rubbish fuel economy (the 1200 gets better mpg). Great bike but not for today's fuel rip-off. I also want kick start which I know can be retro fitted from the 600 but it's a pita.

Otto's got a point I've read these 650GS is pretty good, solid motors, good with poor quality fuel. People have taken them just about any old place you can think of....
yup I'd take one of them a BMW 650 single... cheap, good...economical..nice

When I jump on the 1200 I fall in love with it. I know it's deceiving; snow and sand are a nightmare but it's such a lovely ride.

Is it me but has no one else noticed that Husky are owned by BMW.
I’m sure BMW being typically German and manager by engineers would have been sharing (and borrowing) all the good ideas between the brands since purchasing them in 2007.

This weeks MCN has a big article on the new Husky se610, they reckon that since BMW bought them out 2 years ago reliability etc is much improved and the new bike is great. Is this the discontinued 650 X Challenge in disguise albeit with MT21's fitted as standard and a decent rear shock?
And is just me that's noticed BMW's last two 'dirt bikes' are now discontinued....for some reason/

Carry a live fish
Take only US dollars
Seek sponsorship for not cutting your toenails
Other suggestions welcomed; by me if not by him

- You'll have ferries to pay for
- Spares to buy
- General running costs (tyres, oil, fuel, etc)
- Insurances
- Panhandlers to fob off
- Accommodation to buy
- Cost of returning you (and your bike?) to the UK
- etc etc

I used to own a TE610E which has now gone to its proud new owner and they are great bikes, very well built, reliable with plenty of power but NOT the bike for your trip.
I would be tempted with a Honda XR650 or even a Honda Transalp (600 the best imho). What about a DRZ400, very reliable and proven or 660 tenere. Your barking up the wrong tree thinking of a Husky they need regular oil and filter changes.
