:nenauHi
Can anyone tell me if they know where I can get my Garmin Zumo 550 repaired. I am on the phone to Garmin as I type this and they tell me they don't repair them. They cannot give me the name of a company who can repair it. They are currently giving me a price for a replacement one at £111.31 but I would rather get my old one fixed. Anybody know where I might get it repaired.

Thanks Kevin

Kevin, I got a Garmin lead from Donedeal recently and the seller also works on older gps models. He isdoing map upgrades for me this weekend. Based in D 24. Ill put a link up here for him asap. :thumb2

Edit..... Here you go. His name is Jay http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/caraccessories/3896652 tell him I sent you. I was pleased with his attitude and manner I told him I'd refer him to others.

Go with Garmins offer. I took advantage of their offer and sent them back my second hand 550, they sent me out a 660 with all the bits!:beerjug:

I am with Damien but I would ring Garmin again cos most units are supportted upto 7 years old and some of the call centre bods don't know their arse from their elbow

Hi Bin Ridin
I cannot switch it on, I changed the battery still no joy. I connected it to the computer using the USB connection and it does not register on the computer. I plugged it into the wall socket to charger it and still no joy. I connect it to bike turn on the ignition no joy the same with the car.

Contact Jay dropping over to him to let him see it.

I will take the replacement for £110 I don't have the cost for the 660 @ £550.

I am hoping to get it repaired in Ireland if not I will give them a call and see the cost.

It was said to me that they don't repair even when I questioned the promised support it was the same answer.

Will let you know what happens

Thanks to all Keith

Garmin aren't supporting the 550 anymore so don't waste your money getting it fixed. I paid the 110 STG, sent them off the 550, and they sent me back a 660.
They transferred over my European lifetime map update subscription too.

So 110STG for a 660 was a bargain. Garmins customer support is superb, I wish their software was as good.

I know you said you changed the battery but just in case that was a typo and that you meant to say you charged the battery, there is a fault occurs regularly with the Zumo 550 and 500 which is as you described. Physically removing the battery from the back of the Zumo can fix it, it worked on my 500.

I might send it on to Garmin and see if they send me the Garmin 660 instead.

As for the battery I changed the battery and still it did not work.

Thanks Kevin

Thats the way to go, have both but use the 660 most of the time, didnt think id like it but its the business

Damien, Bogman
Was your Zumo 550 in warranty when they exchanged them or where they out of warranty and the replaced them with the 660. Just don't want to get my hopes up and they send me another Zumo 550.

Regards Kevin

The 550 as been discontinued so I think they will replace it with a 660 as they have done with others in this post. Why not ask them what the replacment is?

Mount of the 550 packed up on tour in the Czech Rep Kevin, tried to get a new 550 as couldn't get a new mount, decided on the 660 after Harley dealer in Linz tried to screw me with the price of a 550, got the 660 cheaper and intended selling the 660 on return to Ireland but ended up favouring it to the 550, in use since, Garmin replaced the mount FOC so now have both.

660 is better no doubt, miss the physical buttons on the 550 though

Iand46,
I asked what it would cost to replace with the 660 but he gave the retail price and suggested I should go on Ebay to get a better deal.

Kevin, I had a very similar problem happen to my 550 as happened to yours. I returned the unit to Garmin for the figure your were quoted and they sent me a replacement 550.

Now my understanding of how Garmin operate is: if they have no 550 as service exchange units in stock they will replace it with a 660 complete with all the bits for the same money you have been already quoted.

Seems to me that you win either way.

If your unable to back-up the files that are currently on you Zumo ask Garmin to put them on your replacement unit.

Kevin,

My 550 was bought second hand on this site and was about 5 years old when it packed up, so well out of warranty and not even the original owner.

Maybe I was just lucky they only had a 660 in stock.

However, even if they send you out a replacement 550, the warranty starts again when you receive it.

As Bogman has said, the 660 is much better, particularly for listening to music as it is stereo, the 550 is mono.

If you really want to repair your 550 get a free estimate from HERE. I've used these guys with great results and I know other tossers have used them too. :thumb2

I just received my Zumo 550 back from Garmin, I was hoping that they might send me a Zumo 660 as some on here had said that they had got one. I will just have to settle for the Zumo 550.

I will just have to settle for the Zumo 550.

I'd gladly settle for a 550 ;)
I've a 400 with a cracked screen, making the touch part inoperable, but they won't repair / replace it because they don't support it anymore

I'll try the other places that have been suggested but I'm not confident.
Anyone have a cheap Zumo for sale :nenau
