The two security bolts that hold the ignition unit in place and can only be removed by drilling have come lose. I've managed to screw them in with a bit of jiggery pokery but I'd like to secure them with the proper tool. Does anyone know what it is and were I can get one?

Thanks

Aren't they shear-headed bolts? If so, you will need new ones. The idea is the driving head snaps off when tightening, leaving them tamper-proof. Personally I would just fit some plain hex set screws with a bit of low strength loctite, but not sure if that could harm any future insurance payout if the bike was ever stolen/recovered.

I don't think it's a shear-head because it has teeth that seem to allow clockwise rotation. This is it. Thanks

What you should have done is drilled a 4mm hole a few mm deep and then hit a slightly oversized torq bit into the hole and simply unbolted it.:D

Works everytime :thumb2

You can also do them up in the same way .

Use your noggin. Get a third bolt, screw a nut down onto it, then turn the bolt upside down and hold it against the one you want to tighten so the two ends are against each other, then use a long socket over the bolt onto the nut and tighten up the security bolt. :D

Or just use two normal allen bolts. :augie

I'm trying.....very trying! I had hoped that a tip-off from someone to a supplier of said special tools was the easiest option but many thanks for the alternatives to let me hang on to the security bolts and confirmation that it's not a shear-head. I'll be ordering a single bolt from messrs Pidcocks this morning.

Get some security torx screws - the type with a pin in the middle. Easy to fit with the correct tool and might even slow down a professional thief.

The pros wont worry too much about the ignition switch and are little problem regarding insurance (assuming the policy is correct), because you wont hear the bike go and for sure you will NEVER see it again.

Never mind security tools and bolts etc etc Really who the hell is going to do a handstand to check if you have security bolts or not :blast ??????

Just fit a couple of stainless allens with LIGHT smear or grease and torque them up as they should be

If you ever have to do it at the roadside then you are sorted! :rob

They aren't. That's how they come when you buy them. ;)

aww shucks ive just checked my spare ring antenna which was supplied with 2 new screws for the barrel housing,i could have sworn they were shear bolts but feck they are not:D
