Decided as i have a bit of time on my hands, to do something with my x challenge. It's been sat in the garage for a long while unused, so i wanted to build something i could travel with.

Bought a large tank off someone on here and now the tinkering begins,

Low front mudguard,

Then i decided to buy some ktm parts from a guy on here, as i wanted to put a front end on with a bit of weather protection,

Bit of a mock up to see if there was any chanch that i was going to get it to fit...

Next up, was a bit of chopping to get the fairing in closer to the tank. I have Cable tied the whole front end and bracket to the head stock to see where i would need to put the brackets.

Had to mark up the front, so i could mount the subframe,

Cut a couple of brackets to weld onto the front, 4mm steel

Tacked them on top and bottom to make sure i was in the right place, before welding it up.

And another mock up, Had to move it forward a touch as it was catching when i put the steering lock on.

Weld it into position and drill the holes for the subframe.

I fitted a couple of aluminium spacers to stop it crushing the steel when the bolts are tightened up.

Couple of stainless bolts, so they don't rust

I have decided to reshape the panel as it still wouldn't fit properly.. Think i'm somewhere near now with thwe shap, as it goes with the contours of the tank.

That is starting to look the dog's dangles. I really like the look of the front end, and def the low mud guard.
Keep us dated as you go along.

Cheers Dave.

Great job Craig, I'd go with low mudguard and a super moto one high as a beak like I did with my 950.

This is looking ballsy . . . . headstock welding :D

I's persevere and try the low option as the amount of muck that gets embedded in the rads with the OE is poor. What would they look like together?

KTM fairing mated to the TT tank - looks good.

Today, was to make up brackets day,

Starting with cutting down the hand guard brackets and re drilling to make the guards fit, as they were too close to the screen.

Job done and the Barkbusters back on..

Next up was to make the brackets for the front of the fairing. Think these should do the job.

They will bolt on to the existing subframe.

I can leave these in place and remove the fairing from around it, i have tacked nuts on to the back of them, so only a need for a Allen key if they need to be removed.

Looking from the inside.

I have gone with the Low mudguard option, (cheers for the input):beerjug:

Made up some very strange looking brackets for it, because i didn't want to drill holes in the mudguard (as like some i know:blast)

This is the one on the right side of the bike, as there is no caliper.

And the one for the left side.

And here fitted to the bike.

Its really firmed up the mudguard, which is what i was looking for. They can be taken off and painted properly once i have it all in position.

Thought i'd get the fairing and mudguard painted today in between jobs..

Sanded it all down.
Nxbbbpal.jpg

Removed all the old paint as it was peeling.
grvGlZul.jpg

The rear mudguard was doing its usual job of peeling, as Bmw don't bother priming or even keying the plastic so the paint can stick.
LUkUdixl.jpg

Gave the whole lot a coat of extra fill primer, so i could flat all the scratches out..

Picture of me looking extreemly pleased with what i was doing:D

And the completed product..

Its all nice and shiney now.

This....is.....AWESOME!!!!

A couple of hmmm moments, if I may?

Other than that, this build is fantastic. Fairing support brackets look tough and should protect the rad and tank really well. Paint finish totally spotless, did you sand down inbetween coats or after the primer?

So...as been said earlier, headstock attachment must have been a brave desicion. Why that and not a clamp-on solution?
KTM low fender, I admit, looks the best out there, but still needs an extension to work properly, why not a fender off the 800gs? Also, the fork spacings we have is 20mm wider than ktm forks - did you notice that any significant stretching was required?

As the head stock on the Ktm adventure is welded i thought i would make up the same shape brackets, It's a steel head stock so welding is no problem...

I like the look of the ktm fender, it's wide enough for the forks and my own brackets are built so it just pulls the rear mounts out slightly.
Once all the body work is finished, i'm going to look t changing the forks and maybe the yokes for a WP set up as the xchallenge forks are shite...
