KTM panniers....Nomada panniers....or ?

I'm may need to buy panniers for the 1190 in the not too distant future. I'm not really sure about KTM's own offerings as they look humungous, tho' I do like the fact that the fixing points are already on the bike and the way they open. £740 less 10% is what my dealer has quoted.

I also have these in mind.

They would work out about £90 dearer and obviously have that ruffy tuffy adventure look. What I do like about these is the cut out right box which looks far neater than other manufacturers offerings which have a smaller case sitting way out offside of the exhaust.

As I travel solo, maybe I could get away with a bigger topbox and a roll bag instead of spending significant dosh on panniers. :nenau

Any 1190 owners have experiance of the KTM boxes or other make systems ?

tbh, I'm disappointed in the topbox. the locks don't always close first time and it isn't fully waterproof. I had a givi v46 top box and used it for 10 years. Never had a complaint or issue with it. If I could, I would sell my panniers and go with a givi top box and roll bag. I used a roll bag on a trip in June:

and it was perfect for a few days / week's travel. I'm probably going to try to sell my kTm panniers and go back to a givi top box and use the roll bag.

The roll bag was secured using rok straps and was stable at 125 (on a closed road :aidan

Hi Davy
I've had the KTM plastic ones I thought they were shite sold them and now have Touratech zega twos in black and they are great .
My KTM ones were changed under warranty loads off times still rubbish .

I have heard of complaints over leaking and I did ask the parts guy about this. He said that all issues were sorted out with the seals and the panniers were now fine. But then, he would say that.

Well, the bullet has been bitten and a set of Nomada panniers and rack has been ordered. I just couldn't get over the looks of the KTM items and the complaints of leakages.

Good choice. I am not happy with mine and will switch to a givi top box in the new year, cheap and works.

My Nomada panniers and racks arrived today and I'm well pleased. They were very well packaged, so no damage and the quality appears to be superb with beautiful welding down the seams and the powder coating on the racks and lids of the panniers flawless.

Happy as a very happy thing. :bounce1

Davy, did you consider the Givi Trekker Outback aluminium setup, I think this is the way I'm going, just wondering if you have looked at them and dismissed them for a reason.

Main reason I dismissed the Givi Trekkers was because of the size and the way most manufacturers mount the right side pannier. They look huge and worse than KTM's own offerings because the right one looks like it's sitting way out too far (although they use, as most others do, a slimmer box). The bottom pic is, I believe, Touratech panniers which give a better view of how awful they look from the rear. OK, you can argue that you want or need the larger panniers for the most amount of storage, that's fine. Personally, I don't need masses of storage as I ride solo and I just couldn't live with the lop-sided look. I liked the SW-Motech Q/R system racks and boxes, but they too have the right pannier sitting way out and it still just looks wrong to my OCD eyes.

This is why I went for the Nomada set-up. The rack/pannier combo on the right looks so much better. The top pic shows the 45/38 ltr combo (for more storage), but I've gone for the 38/31 ltr combo, as in the second pic. The third pic is another of the Nomadas with topbox. I have an SW-Motech rack fitted on my 1190 and I use a Givi 33 lte topbox on that which is kept mostly empty as I use it as my helmet locker when I leave the bike parked up. The last pic shows how neat the Nomada panniers are from a frontal aspect. They're no wider than the handlebars which should help if I need to filter.

I'm sure there are other manufacturers systems available that I haven't seen, but I'm happy with what I've plumped for, so far. :thumb2

Oh, if you fit a Remus Hexcone exhaust to your 1190, Nomada do a specific rack for that which means you can fit two 31/38 or 45 ltr boxes.

Did a loose fitment today to see just how they look. As said before, really well pleased with them and please take into account that these are the standard exhaust racks as I'll re-fit the oe pipe onto the bike for any lengthy trips away. Might as well let the stock exhaust suffer the lack of care when these are on the bike. :comfort

And with boxes. The standard pipe does fill the gap much better than the more svelte Wings exhaust.
