Low fuel tank capacity

Just had something similar on mine, warning light and fuel gauge flashing and lost range estimate. When I filled up it only took 12ltrs! Will have to see how it goes.

I recently opened the cover on right hand side of petrol tank on my 2004 GS when the new recall fitted fuel line connector started leaking, and it definitely had the sucker jet pump in there.

Don't know which sensor. I did not speak to the mechanic, just the receptionist who read it off the job card.

There is no Jet pump on a GS only on a GSA.

The range you got on your last tankful is about right for a GS, mine did 256 miles and took 21 litres. I just use the trip meter and fill it at 200 miles, but then I mostly ride Airheads and theres no fuel gauge on them, you soon find out how far they will go on a tankful!

Slight change of tack, how would i find out about recalls?

Ask the dealer who did your tank sensor.

But they have the very hi tech addition of a reserve tap.

I've been biking for 40 years but have only ever run out of fuel on the bike with the biggest fuel tank and no reserve tap.

Bikes don't need a fancy fangled fuel gauge a reserve tap is more than god enough.

I seem to have the same issue with my bike (2006 GSA). I collected it on Saturday and the fuel gauge was very low, so I filled it up before heading home. I brimmed the tank but could only get 18 litres in?

I have spoken to my local dealer who are servicing it on 4th June. I told them what was happening, so they will investigate the problem and get it sorted.

An update on my fuel issue:
2012 GSA. My fuel gauge is fairly accurate. The bike would conk out, as if it had run out of fuel, whilst still showing 45 miles range remaining.
The bike would then take only 28 litres (ish) of fuel to brim it. It became apparent that there was about 5 litres of fuel remaining in the right hand side of the tank: the sucker jet pump was not moving fuel from the right, to the left, as it should.
On inspection, the fuel pump was only making 2 bar of pressure. It should make well over 4 bar. It needs to make this pressure in order to operate the sucker jet pump.
Had the pump replaced last week, then repeated the "run dry" test. All was well: it went down to "zero miles range" then continued to cover another 26 miles before abruptly running out.
It then took 34 (and a bit) litres to fill it.
Happy now I'm no longer lugging over a gallon of fuel around that I can't use!

It's great shame we can't rig up a valve to use that right side as a reserve supply. But once the left side runs that fuel will be trapped as it there will be no main fuel flow to drive the jet pump. Simple idea scuppered.
