Hi Have a late 2009 model R1200GS. Does anyone know how I can find out if its the MK2 or MK3? Ta

Easiest way to tell a single from a twin cam is where the oil filler cap is. On left hand c/head = single cam, right hand = twin cam. Alan

Easier still, look at the Rocker Covers.
4no. Fixings = S/C.
2no. Fixings = T/C.

And what a great improvement that was. Why put it on the opposite side to the sight glass. Was a pain in the ass crawling round the bike to check when the ex missus had her twin cam GSA. Much easier on my 06 GSA.

By the way, unless you've bought yourself a Ford Escort, it's not a Mk1, Mk2 etc....

Original ones were 2005 to 2007 with shit servo-ABS brakes, 2008 to 2010 were referred to as 'MU"(model update) and then the 2010 to 2013 variety are 'TC' (Twin-cams)...

Also worth bearing in mind that the Servo ABS disappeared from September 2007, so you may well happen across a 2007 (57) Bike with the later System, although the Aesthetics will still be the same as the the earlier Models...

The servo disappeared a bit earlier than that... My 07 GS (reg 06/03/07) has later ABS with no servo.

Sept '06 onwards got the newer ABS (2007 model year)

from my G8 ThinQ

the later ones got a recall for fracturing the steel brake pipes due to vibration... where they all got replaced

That's a bit of great info, I now know I have a BMUU R1200 GSA TU with the better ABS brakes.

I bought mine just over 12 months ago, it's a 2010 bike on a 57 frame, it was a class N insurance bike bought from a dealer in Doncaster. Slight cosmetic on the right hand side, but nothing to see really. I've only done 10k on it so far in the last 12 months.

Out of Interest, how did a 2010 Bike that needed a complete Frame Replacement end up as just a Cat. N??

If that was the biggest PITA you had I would'nt complain.

I didn't ask, I did ask about the mileage change on the MOT history, frame had done 70k rest had done 30k. The bike had been on the road for over a year after the swap. The bike has scrap marks on the right pot and has mag wheels as apposed to spoked wheels so I presume either a cautionary thing or bent frame. (I know the wife's car was written off due to an over zealous insurance assessor claiming the 3mph car park wing crease prang had damaged the car's sub frame). The bike handles fine.
