Hi,

My left heated grip R1200GS is nowhere near as warm as the right so I’m thinking it needs replacing.

Anyone done this and can give advice on where you got a replacement?

Thanks
Mark

I changed mine on my 2010 Hexhead, pretty straight forward with help from a Haynes manual.

There's a retaining screw just under the flange of the grip nearest the left switchgear. Just ease the lip or flange of the grip back away from the switch gear and you should see the screw. The wiring was just a case of unplugging the old grip and plugging in the new one, it might be worth taking a picture of how the small wires are routed before you unplug them.

I bought the grip from Motorworks click

normal fault - still there on newer bikes ....

every BM I've had does this, on my early designed to kill GS it was a big gap - fitting a right grip and housing that allows the brake lever to operate through its full travel by moving the throttle cable above the lever (rather than jam on the throttle cable as per all pre MY2008 year bikes), lessened the effect from huge to mildly irritating

Thanks, so order a right one for use on the left so to avoid the wire getting damaged?

Cheers

Last time I replaced the RH throttle grip on a Hexhead it was only for the right and came fully moulded with the throttle cable cam, bar clamping bracket etc. the LH was just a plain grip held on with two small torx screws.

I’d check before ordering if I were you.

The grips are left and right handed to allow for the throttle. I bought a pair as mine were both quite worn (although only one had stopped working). The right hand one is part no HAA95470

Mine isn't irritating at all, it just has nice new warm heated grips.

nope as post directly above, they are handed - what I was trying to say was the gap in temp seems less on later bikes - and as pre MY2008 they had a throttle cable that runs under the brake lever it gets in the way if the ABS cuts in - and you can run out of brakes (hitting a mechanical stop that has no right to be there) - it should have been, and still remains in my mind a severe safety recall that's never been addressed (as BMW are better at lying and cheating than responsibility...) you can level up older bikes heating, by fitting the later throttle housing and its grip - but I doubt you'll want to buy new as they are stupid money

Pretty easy .look on YouTube there’s a Korean bloke does a lot of bmw work and his video on changing the grip is very clear .https://youtu.be/UIQPd-SNy6Q?list=PLvjEfNKDNdkxVkEXH6mtO4WSbF6sMH5-8
