Car insurance, OEM windscreen replacement!

I had pretty bad experiences in the past, with windscreen replacement with the various windscreen companies, that the insurers insist you use. I own a BMW i3S, which can be very problematic with windscreen replacement, if not done correctly, so I’d like to find an car insurance company, that will allow manufacturer repair/replacement. Anybody know of and had experience with this?

My own insurer Aviva permits "non approved supplier windscreen replacement" but with a limit of £185 which I guess is what their approved repairer would charge Aviva. I'd expect other insurers would follow a similar line.

So in answer to your question, Aviva, & probably other insurers permit OEM replacement

Is your next question - "In there an insurer who will permit OEM replacement and bear the whole cost, rather than expecting me to top up the difference"?

Would have thought unlikely but others may know different

Alternatively, consider that if the insurers repairer doesn't refit your w/s correctly as you fear, you have recourse with them to have the job rectified
 
What are the circumstances of you needing a replacement window? If your claiming off a 3rd party you can look for oem repair. JJH
 
Damaged windscreen from road debris is the main culprit. I’ve had numerous windscreen replacements on several different cars, every time, the replacements have been cheap non OEM glass (distorted glass), but worse still, the fitters have fitted badly and caused damage to the car. Yes you can complain, but in my experience, the repair is very inconvenient and in a couple of instances, has take several attempts to put right. Something I want try and avoid if possible. I hope I don’t need to claim, but with all the debris on the roads now, it’s pot luck these days.

If BMW dealer does the repair, it will have a quality OEM screen fitted, plus it will be fitted by bmw trained fitter, with correct replacement parts.
 
In my days in the motor trade (22 years ago main Toyota and BMW dealership ) windscreens were mostly subbed out to the local specialists. JJH
 
I'd put a fiver away in the bank once a month and self insure.
When the windscreen broke on Mrs R's Panda recently the Autoglass service via Admiral was frankly awful and the terms draconian to the extent that they even had a clause if they broke the windscreen whilst fitting it, it was not their liability and you'd have to pay. The terms weren't revealed until after you paid the excess. Bollocks to that.
 
Couple of years ago Ihad this with my old Audi A4 ,I didn't claim in the end as my free window protection and protected No Claims did not mean that it wouldn't affect renewal premiums !!!

Went to a trusted local company and paid the £160 odd to have a new screen fitted and when I spoke to the manager he said that they supplied the same screen to insurers as they had just fitted to my car and that for the same job they would have billed my insurer nearly £400
