No sealing grease added between the gaiter and swing arm - I wouldn't follow his advice.

There's a reason why BMW use an expensive, very sticky grease for the joint.

that bloke is a complete fuckwit, where to start?,rubber hammer to engage fd ffs, usb cable to hold shaft?,ive never had to force the fd back up and just a finger in the boot holds the uj at the right angle and it just slides in.oh and speedo cable!

I agree, but it still lets water in, sticky grease or not! Just done mine and I was disappointed to see the dreaded red colour on the splines.

Saw this that might be useful to do on your GS....

Unless of course there's a better way of doing it?

He's not great mechanically? Car Jack / big rubber mallet?? if lined up properly & clean, it will pop straight into place without the need for violence. Highly reccomended procedure though I do both ends of the Cardon shaft - wheel end does get the most exposure to moisture though. there is a more professional video of this procedure out there somewhere? cant remember where, pos in prev links?

This is the grease to use on the accordion bellows.

If that is what Herr Swingarm used on my bike when he built it, its useless. It was as dry as a wooden God and looked more like seagull shit than a form of water repelling grease. I used Castrol Molub-Alloy Paste White T.

That's the grease that is recommended for the bellows, it's relatively expensive stuff and I don't think they use much when first assembled at the factory. I did my spline soon after A. Jeffries did the running in service at 600 mls. Probably at about 1000 mls, no rust on my splines (hardly surprising bike hadn't been washed or ridden in rain) but very little grease on the accordion bellows so would have let water in and the rust would have started.

Here's a good reference video for Final Drive service to include spline lube.
It's part of a 6 part series to do the 12k service on WetHead Boxer 1200's.
Hope this helps.

Bloke who does them goes on a bit though ;) No, great vid's for sure, and I've refered to them a couple of time just to check I was right on the cam timing.... :beerjug:

On the original posting, why does he find it so hard to get the drive back in and result to smashing it together :blast I had to stop watching at this point.. maybe he'd pulled it off the front snap ring and didn't know?... as said above, get the lined up right, they just slide in :)
