Fitting 1200 tyres to an 1150, redrafted question

Right, got my facts right and a proper title before pressing the return button of no return :blast sorry

Has anyone tried fitting 120/70 and 170/60 tyres to an 1150 which usually has 110/80 and 150/70 F&R ??

Has the 1200 2.5" and 4" wide rims as well? I've measure the front clearance to fork legs as approx 20mm each side, and 14mm to the swingarm.
That seems enough to accommodate the extra 10mm front and 20mm rear widths... :confused:

There's only a few mm difference in sidewall sizes.

Been tempted by some tyre deals, more often on 1200 sizes, and folk on here selling tyres. Just curious about others opinions and experience before making an arse of it!
 
I’ve not gone away from standard on mine but I know from messing with profiles and widths on previous bikes that a small change will make them handle completely differently so unless you want that to happen I’d stick with what they’re designed to be run on.
 
1200wc models have a 3.0x19 front rim and a 4.5 x 17 rear rim the wc tyres are too wide for the 1150 rims and will not sit correctly ie narrower rims will make the tyres balloon.

They will probably work but all sorts of ramifications if they fail or if you make a claim and the bike is examined by the insurance company , the standard 1150 and 1200 hex head tyres are cheaper for pairs anyway
 
Ive fitted wider than stock tyres before on my other bike's what I found is that the middle wears out quicker as the tyre is pinched more to fit the narrower rim which makes the tread peaky and not a uniformed curved also once it wore down more in the middle the handling went to pot ,felt as tho you were riding on the edge cornering ..
 
That's settled it then, not going to do that then. Good to know that the rims are not the same width- I'd not have even considered it if I had known that, sure to end in tragedy having violated the terms of my insurance :eek:

Indeed, well done bikermate, as the first school gate you passed at 3.30pm with all the pregnant mums and the kids standing outside would've meant instantly crashing amongst them in a fireball, then rebounding into a bus stop full of disabled people before exploding, killing hundreds.

It happens all the time,, people have lost their homes, businesses and livelihoods, must be true, i've read it on here enough times warning anyone who even considers fitting a non standard handgrip. .

Oh feck! Better get rid of the non-standard Ohlins and Remus kit lest I destroy out a whole town of innocent babbies, blind kittens and elderly 3 legged rescue donkeys.
