I was having a clear-out the other day and came across this. I picked it up from the 1980 Birmingham Bike Show and didn't realise I'd kept it. For your amusement, the bike I was riding at the time was a restricted Suzuki X1 (I have the leaflet for that too!) and it was many years later before I bought my first GS (an 1150).

I was wondering if I'd discovered the GS equivalent of the Red Sea Scrolls or should it be consigned to my newspaper recycling bag? Can I ask if anyone's seen these for sale or knows if they have any value as a few grand would come in useful for Christmas.

Thanks

I have binders full of brochures - love them when reminiscing or as a guide for anyone doing a restoration. That one, is a beauty!

There seems to be quite a market for them and, having rediscovered mine, I can see why. 1980 was clearly a good year for bikes. In addition to the GS I picked up brochures for the 250LC and bike of my dreams that I always wanted but never owned, the SP400.

I too have quite a few old brochures including I believe the same one you have. I used to as many a kid and adult did walk around picking them up off the stands and asking if they had any stickers. then get home as assess your haul. I have a 79 triumph model range one that I particularly like and a 1980 poster of the Honda range, but probably my favourite the paralever GS and GSPD :beerjug:

I was on the advertising shoot for the G/S that appeared in UK bike magazines when it launched. We had a pile of mud in the studio to photograph the bike on, and we smeared mud by hand in the bike. I was sent out (I was the only one in the studio with a bike license) riding it in an attempt to get it dirty. Which wasn’t very successful as the Harrow road in west London isn’t very muddy. The pictures were shot in Woodfield studios, woodfield road W9

You're a flippin Darkhorse you are :clap:clap:clap:thumb

The worst for brochures were some of the Italian marques. Laverda only seemed to do re-prints of bike mag reviews.
