Lots of times in the past people have asked why their bike is running rough.

A lot of times it will be after they've lifted the petrol tank up to get to the battery terminals.

When this is done the throttle cables can become unseated at the throttle body.

Bugger.....

I thought I had fixed the problem last time, when I reseated the throttle cables. I "thought" it was running better after doing so, but I went to get it out of the garage today for the first time since playing with it, and low and behold, it just wasn't running well at all. The throttle cables are definitely seated correctly this time. It sounds bloody lumpy (to the point that I'm worried about running it, neveralone riding it), and when I blip the throttle, as it comes off the over-run it gives a hugh bang out of the pipe. Even with the Y-piece, it never did this before. Do ya recommend the Motronic reset thingy? And how is this done precisely???

Cheers!:whatthefe

Crikey mate, this takes me back, was about 4 years back now! I think it was something really silly like trapping a cable under the tank- in fact, i'm almost sure it was. Just check all throttle linkage, see if there's something obvious.

I'm on a 1150 Adventure now, and don't ever get these probs now, so must have designed it better than the standard GS.

Good luck mate.:thumb2

I had exactly the same issue on my single spark...thought I had dropped a valve. It was due for a service and I had brought some new plugs so on the offchace I put em in and bike was fine. The old plugs looked OK but were clearly shot.

I had this exact prob one week in to ownership, it ran really rough just before a long trip, so i thought id take it the 5 miles to local petrol station, was reaaly bad lurching etc as i pulled up at pump and got off, the bike was in flames, on right side the rubber hoses were on fire. Managed to rip them off and use a fire extinguisher on the bike ans nursed it home where i found the cable not seated correctly... Arg.. Not nice!:(

Rough running fault

A few years ago I had an 02 1150 that developed a rough running fault. After many hours I found that the small rubber caps that cover the balance pipe attachment tube under the throttle body had perished and were allowing air to bleed in and upset the mixture.

warranty

Hi Whatton

just new at this so sorry if this is the wrong section to ask a question, I have 2008 gsa 1200 and my warranty is up for renewal within a couple of weeks. This will cost just over £300 and was wondering weather you would advise to go ahead with this or are there any independant companies who offer a similar service at a lower cost.

Regards Steeevo

I had a good one that showed up the other week ...bearing in mind the gs has 92 odd k on it . The throttle adjuster on the nearside has a screw that had been very slightly worn on the thread and started to let it self adjust after the last balancing it had, had . its now had a new thread cut and a new scew fitted and is sound
