tool tube mounting??

so someone else with a 1200 must have bought a Mozza tool tube... where did you mount it because the picture of the tube on the RH aft frame tube doesnt work very well because the tube is fairly close to the wheel and would contact the wheel in any large dips/bumps or with a pillion.

so spill the goods - where did u mount yours????
 
Spill the goods was an apt phrase for Happy Pilgrim who mounted his crossways above the rear wheel.

Bumpy roads on the approach to Algeciras led to the rear wheel making contact and the contents of the tool set being scattered across the motorway. :eek:

yep thats what i am afraid of... i bought the special clamps as suggested in the mozza thread but turns out it wont work as suggested, bit of a pisser tho.

safest place i guess is behind the number plate or is that where the " pilgrim" had his?
 
I was hoping to be inspired by this thread I’ve been scratching my head for weeks where to fix it to the bike when fully loaded with top box n panniers. :blast Only thing I can think of is to attach it to the bottom of the pannier :nenau , as I never take them off when touring. I wonder how many Mozza tubes are still sat on the workbench? Come on guys where did you stick em.

On my GSA I fitted it on the RHS pannier frame, mounted horizonatlly, with the cap facing rearwards. I used SS P Clip brackets from somewhere(!), attached to the front and rear vertical tubes of the frame, about 2-3 cms up form the lower part, to allow clearance for the brackets on the backs of the panniers when fitted. The tool tube is between the rear wheel and the frame.

No doubt that doesn't make a,.ot of sense when you hve no idea what I am talking about...I will try and take some piccies when it is not so dark and post them here...
 
After a lot of head scratchin, me mate fitted his to his boat. On there he actually uses it! :clap
 
ta for the piccys.... unfortunatly i dont have the gsa panniers but hopefully it gives people some ideas... ill have to spend some more time in the bike room and see what i can come up with......
 
Tubes

What diameter is the tube? aint much room in there between the tyre and frame especially on full compression.

I have TT rails to fit to my 58 GSA (when it comes).... and a Toolroll....

so ..was thinking of left pannier rail if someone can tell me where they got the fixings to9 attach to the rails.....

Not sure yet if it will work, but am thinking ahead...(for once)

Roll on the date I collect my 1200GSA.( soon I hope, as long as the painters dont take too long..... all black GSA...will be cool)
... coz my 55 1200GS has been bloody ace.

so i don 't ride a 1200 (more discerning taste;)), but this suggestion works regardless of bike and as long as you've alu panniers:

stove fuel and tools. i might mount another 2 on the back of the bigger pannier too (for oil and water?).

And what should I put in it?

And why didn't I first put whatever it is into a poly bag, so i can get whatever it is back out of the tube?

Or am I supposed to turn the bike upside down?

Fk! Does that mean I'll have to buy a boat? The wife will be pleased... Or really pissed! But I'll tell her it was you said it was the best idea. :D
