Hi All,
I use to be a sports bike rider and changed to a Ducati Multistrada last year -absolutley fantastic bike but I fancy a change and everyone seems to be raving about the 1200gs.
I was speaking to a mate of mine who rekons that I should not buy one yet as they have had loads of issues the most serious one being something to do with the onboard computer that will suddenly increase the engine speed to 4000rpm????
Sounds a bit far fetched I know and if it is rubbish then fair enough but if you know of any other niggles that I should be made aware of then that would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Gman,

There have been a few teething issues such as the fuel pump, etc. Most now seem to be sorted though I think there are still a few niggles out there. Do a search of this site - if there is an issue it will be here. The revving to 4k is a new one on me - I haven't heard that one before (stands by for incoming :helmet ).

Don't let the tales of doom and gloom you will find put you off though. The experiences reported are real enough but its in the nature of a forum that people with problems will try to find an answer and this gives a biased sample. Most are very happy with the 1200GS.

Its a great bike.

Paul

PS Blue is the fastest and don't let any of the other neer do wells on this board tell you otherwise.

Satisfaction with 1200GS

Look under 1200GS section at Happy with GS pole 90% happy to date says it all, great bike.

Thanks for that, btw Ima lso thinking blue might be the fastest!!

dear gman

i enjoyed my strada too.

but now that i have done nearly 14k on the 12gs the strada is really an afternoon bike. i did about 12k on the strada.

there is only one thing that the strada does more easily then the 12 and that is flicking a line change on a fast lean but then that does not seem to be a problem now.

the 12gs has far more technology then the strada. yes i've have had some problems which have been quickly rectified under warranty or a software download.

also nice when it goes to starting the german is sure and not the coughing self start of the strada. and good to be told things like the headlight bulb is blown which takes 5 mins to replace by me. when the strada front parking went i gave up after 3 hours and it took the dealer 3 hours to replace.

i had to change the screen of the strada to stop the motorway blast, i gave my air hawk cushion away when i got the 12 as it is so comfortable and i could go on and on.

so cutting it short..... running costs. not yet had a sevices which cost as much as a strada. and get this...... i have not changed my rear yet and i reckon i've got another 3k to go. :spl1f:

the strada is over priced when you strip the gs back to the same spec and the strada becomes small very quickly in the rear view mirrior of the 12..... wonder what it would be like in the 'cento passi' :cool

there have been loads of multistrada posts and gsers like me are getting fed up answering. best way is to search the forum for 'multistrada' and you'll get loads of info.

You're right ...........here is a blue one. Despite all the bad vibes on the threads, I have had mine since March .....just done 5000 miles and not a single problem. This is my fifth GS and is a vast improvement on the old 1100/1150/GSA but still requires some refinements by BMW.

I went from a Multistrada to a GS and, despite having a couple of minor issues with the GS and being very unimpressed with BMW themselves, the bike is a far better ride that the Ducati.

Ducati is fine for say 150 miles but then you want to get off. The GS is a bike that I've ridden for 400 miles in one day and still been comfortable.

The views all round are far better on the GS, the tank range far better and the mirrors are brilliant. On the Multistrada - you can just count your elbows!

Perhaps not as nimble as the Multistrada but not far off and almost as flickable too.

Get a GS - you'll love it..... :teacher

You have to be a site sponsor

Or you can host your pics on another website (linked to this one) look under FAQ (posting pics by MasterDabber... excellent instructions) but please sponsor up anyway... this site is def worth it. ;)

tourances and a scooter over took me the other day :nige

seriously i'm amazed too.... its not as though i don't have clumsy gear changes or get a glint in my eye when either a strada or tiger comes up along side.

but then my ducati dealer nearly gave me a prize for getting 6k from a strada rear and 3k from a monster. they expect to fit a new rear every 2.5k on a 999.

the mezlers on the new rocket 3 go every 3 to 4k i'm told..... i can't be having it.

I must admit my numptystrada went 6k on the rear and probably had at least another 500 on it - but then again all my riding is M25 everyday!!

But just reminded myself of the big bug bare of a boxer.

while the rear has done these miles the engine took over 4L of castrol GPS oil :yikes

never had to top up the strada and still have the oil if you are round this way :mmmm the strada oil, like other owners, did milk up in the winter.

seems like i ran it in the wrong way and followed the manual.

Hi Gman Firstly the blue ones arn,t the fastest the yellow ones are i know this following exhaustive tests of the sub micro particles that go to make up the paint and the blue is the heaviest followed by the red............! true honest. If you look on these posts then you will see ive had a bit of bother with mine, the last ,pehaps down to me(i admit it stee SSB)But and this is a big BUT its still a F@^~#n great bike You should get one i think the probs are few and far between so go ahead(for christs sake don't tell SSB im seceratly pleased with mine) :jester

Hi Stevo

That little pack is the "Held Iconic " tail bag from Nippy Norman £39.00 ish. Brilliant bit of kit and expands. Even without expanding it holds a hell of a lot of stuff :

It also has a waterproof detachable raincover for either inside or outside the bag.
But I have been out in the p.....g rain without using it (the raincover) and the stuff inside was dry. :thumb
