I had an off on boxing day on my GSA 1150 and after having a look at the bike the front wheel and handlebars are out of line and was wondering if its merely a case of slackening off the 4 allen screws on the brace above the lower mudguard and re aligning them, the forks themselves appear to be straight and un damaged.

Hi, will probably re-align ok . Because the GS doesn't have a conventional top yoke - ie the legs are only secured in rubber mountings in the top, all the securing and stiff-ness comes from the bottom yoke combined with the wheel spindle and axle clamps.
Leave all the top yoke as it is, slacken off the four screws in the bottom yoke and the wheel spinldle and it's clamps - you'll then find it very easy to align, nip up the screws and keep checking the alignment as you go.
Should have mentioned, the four screws in the bottom yoke are Loctited - it's best to remove them, run a tap down the holes to clean out the old Loctite then refit screws dry and set up as above to align, then remove them one at a time, apply Loctite, and torque up to spec.

Before he asks, what thread are they? Without going out to the bike, I suspect they're M8 x 1,25mm pitch.
