Tyre Preference

OK can we have a poll on tyre preference, and any comments on why?

You can vote for more than one as there is a mix of road and dual purpose tyre

These are all current GS fit tyres, has anyone tried the conti escape

I have run the following on my GS:

Dunlop Trailmax - two sets

Bridgestone 020 - two sets

Bridgestone Battlewing - just fitted

Trailmax - 4000 miles rear and 8000 miles front.
Good feel / feed back. Very good grip wet and dry and most importantly for me very predictable. Playing silly buggers you can get the back to let go but you always know when it's going to happen and it does it very progressivley which is good. Neutral to quick steering, perfect for me. High speed and loaded gets a bit vague above three figures. My fav GS tyre so far.

020 - 5-6000 miles rear and 9000 miles front.
OK feel / feed back. Excellent grip wet and dry but due to slightly less feedback than the Dunlops never quite sure how far I could push them, however, have never provoked a slide from them. Steering slowed down compared to the Dunlops, not so good. High speed and loaded stability is excellent.

Battlewing - Only 30 miles so far so no comment at the mo! Nearly went back to the Dunlops but am interested to see how these shape up. Am hoping to have a dual purpose tyre with the high speed stability of 020's. So far they feel much like 020's but slightly quicker steering (possibly due to old tyres being badly squared off)

Not an expert on tyres, but have always been satisfied with Tourances handling and life (2 1100s, 2 1150s 1 1200..all GSes)

My 12 ADV came with Anakees. Personally I don't think their handling is as good as the Tourances, and they seem to be wearing quicker.

I aim to replace them with Tourances when the time comes.

I've only tried the Dunlop Trailmax and Tourances. Like both but Tourances last longer (well the rears do anyway). Just about to get another set. May try something different next time.

I find it really hard to make comparisons between tyres, because a change in brand usually coincides with a change from old and squared off to new. After a knackered squared off tyre, anything vaguley corcularin profile is going to feel great.

The only tyres I have ever had real problems with were the Bridgestone Trailwings which came as OE on my 1150. They were hopeless in the wet.

Since then I've had Tourances (a few sets), Trailmax (OE on 1200), BT020 (on 1150) and Battlewings (current on 1200). I do really like current ones, though I can't really explain why. They seem quite neutral and grip as well as anything else I've had. I read somehwere that they were same construction and compound at BT020, so I think I'll stick with them for my next set (due soon).

Funny, I always found the Trailwings to be very predictable. The grip was good, could sling the bike around quite happily even in the wet, two-up and fully loaded.

Got the Battlewings on now, but it's a bit early to tell. They certainly feel different, quicker-steering and more stable than the old Trailwings, but I'd put that down to the fact that the old tyres were completely squared off and almost bald by the time I got rid of them...

It's a bit like asking what's you're favourite meal. We'd all have differing opinions.

I would have a set of 020's (or their replacement on any bike) as I had a couple of sets on my Fazer and they were faultless (for me and my riding style) in wet or dry. Would they suit the GS though? I don't know.

I've got Anakee's on mine, and so far they have been fine, no moments in wet or dry again.

I'm actually tempted between the 020's and Battlewings when I need to change.

v.hard to get tyre that is duel purpose ( G:country/trail S:street ) on BAT. WINGS now, first 30 odd miles where interesting, but are scrubbed off nicely now, had 1or2 wheel spins lately, never spun on the prvious Anakees
