This is basically a rerun of Stow-on-the-wold to Alton trip for GSers starting on a Saturday morning, overnight camp somewhere in Wiltshire and continuing trail riding in Wiltshire/Hampshire on the Sunday.

Basic plan is...

a 10am Saturday start at the BP garage in Stow-on-the-wold (SP 18985 25571)

ride lanes in the area West of Stow-on-the-wold

ride lanes in the area North-West of Cirencester

ride the lanes making up the Cirencester-M4 part of the Fosse Way

ride a number of lanes on OS Explorer Map 157 (Calne/Avebury/Ridgeway/Marlborough area) (still in planning stage)

camp Saturday night near Calne - here

resume riding a number of lanes on OS Explorer Map 157 (Calne/Avebury/Ridgeway/Marlborough area) (still in planning stage) to pick up the Wayfarers walk somewhere South of Hungerford and link into the lanes on OS Explorer Map 144 that eventually end up near Basingstoke (loads of details on http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=102963 from post #123 to post #143)

The lanes are suitable for GSs - TKC80s will be best (especially if it rains)- however you'll need to be fairly comfortable with taking the GS trail riding as there are some semi-technical sections (especially if it rains) - although there will always be a (longer) way around :)

Bear in mind you will be carrying the extra weight of your camping gear - it does make a difference, so get your practice in now ;)

I'll add further details as and when I sort them out :)

Camping is likely to be Here
although I'll check it out soonish.

You'll have to leave your silencers on though as they say
"“Quiet” Motorbikes, both individual and Clubs are welcome."

I think the price will be about £5 plus a 30% supplement for a single weekend night. I guess we'll need to pre-book so I may need a deposit.

Quiet m/cs

Clive,
Thanks for the rideout yesterday.
I am looking forward to the Summer Odessey.
Not 100% certain I will be able to make it but put my name down as a definite maybe...
All the best,
Pat.

Count me in!

... bout time I tried doing some lanes (during daytime!). I'll be on tourances rather than knobblies ... so I might have to turn back on the more challanging bits'n'bobs and catch you up.

I'm also quite slow - so I'll probably be at the back .... think it's all the touratat weighing the bike down :-)

Hope I will be able to make it.

June is packed with motorbike weekends and there is also the lawn to mow, the hallway to finish, the kitchen to renovate... :(

Have to negotiate with HWMBO first before I can confirm.

Btw, Clive, from your route planning it looks like you are going to omit the fords at Kineton? So much fun could be had - especially when Dr Rich is coming... :hide

No - it's hidden there on it's own as 007Ford - I didn't list it as a "route" as it's not on a Byway/UCR - just a very poor quality road :D

What strange ideas some people have of "a quality road"... :nenau :D

The camping will be "Here" - near Calne

I popped in for a look this evening - seems ok to me.

It's almost next door to this small car museum

I am generally an optimist so have provisionally booked 12 pitches - need to confirm numbers about a week before.

I can make it. Camping-wise, is that just camping but eating at the pub or camping and eating Wayfarer meals cooke don a small stove...

There appears to be a pub shown on the map a 1/2 mile footpath away from the campsite in Quemerford - no idea what it is like though or if it does food. Hopefully our local boy will see this and can give further info.

I'll be packing a stove and some wayfarer just in case :)

Managed to recce a few byways on the way to work this morning which will be in the route.

If there are any spare slots still..put me down for that weekend.

I should have my special short arse seat manufactured for me by then,so ill have half a chance of getting my foot down on some slippery bits rather than going head first into a ditch as per normal.

The nearest pub in walking distance is not recommended - I've been told there are two reasonable pubs within a few miles ride (or long walk I guess). So eating there is an option :thumb
