Hi guys,

A group of us set off from Sheffield last Sunday morning, heading for a day around the Scottish borders and the Northumberland national park.

We didn't get far, A1 actually before a 12mth 1200gs broke down, full of fuel but faded away. Rang BMW recovery, 25mins later he arrives.
Bet I know what it is he says, fuel pump switch its the only thing that goes wrong, Mmmmm any way its the only spare he carries in his van. Off comes the N/s/f tank side panel, a circular vented plastic cover to accsess the swich which has a heat sink?? Replaced the corroded switch, instant start and off to the borders we went 1hour later.

This switch obviously needs cooling air by design, unfortunately it is going to get plenty of cooling water with it at times!!! which it can't cope with.

The question is fellar's, what does it do?????????????

My thanks in advance gsron:confused:

it

it energises the fuel pump :D
without 1200's are as dead as dodos......... only a replacement part will get that bike going!:blast some technology eh?
Most 1200 owners I know carry a spare :D

gsron, did your mate get charged for the switch (fuel pump controller) or was it a free fix?

hi panzerphil, not sure he didn't say as he met us later at scotch corner, we assumed it would be taken care of under warranty. I feel sure he would have mentioned it though if he had forked out £50 though!!!!!!

Nice one!

Here's my plan..
If I'm unlucky enough to have a failure I'll replace it with the item I've bought with my own money (spit!!) & at my own leisure I shall refit the old failed unit & call out BMW to replace it. That way I'll always have a spare.
