Hi,

another tough question for ye. Has anyone here ever fitted k&n or similar filters to their carbs in order to eliminate the air box?

Thanks in advance.BF

No carbs- it's fuel injection. Although it can be converted to run with carbs. With a hell of a lot of fecking around, without any meaningful gain.

Don't forget the airbox has a temperature sensor so you'd have to relocate it to read the air temperature going into the engine .

I have K/N filter fitted on my 1150 GSA and it works fine Just fitted straight forward with no modification or adjustments 22000m and its good as new:thumb

I think he means K&N unipod filters.... :nenau

Correct. Just found the reason the engine blew in the first place. There was a crack in the air box below the air filter. The box is full of dust and shit and i think the obvious happened.
This bike is breaking my heart but i will persevere.

Mess

So far i have changed the engine only to find that there were no seals in the rockercovers, oil everywhere when she warmed up.Put a new clutch plate in and when the whole thing was assembled there was a squeal coming from the clutch area. Pulled the whole thing apart again and found that the gearbox housing was cracked and i must have bent the pushrod when i put it together. Got the clutch rod straightened and the crack welded and the airbox araldited together. Now i need an m27x1.5 tap to clean up the threaded hole for the paralever mounts.F**k me, but im learning more than i ever thought i would about these bikes.
Thanks for all the help.:thumb

Dear me, thats a rough way to learn about the bike :( what's the history of the machine?

Its a 94' that originated in London. I have the original reg at home so maybe someone here knows who owned it. It was imported into Ireland in 04'.I bought it at christmas as a project and a project it has turned out to be.Nearly everything is broken worn or bent. The gearbox seems to check out ok but i wont know fully till i ride it.It went down the road at some stage coz the front mudguard, tank, headlight bracket, rear subframe and footrests are either broken or bent.I have most of it sorted now but its a pain. One step forward and two steps back.:aidan

I’ve been involved with clapped out machinery before :( good luck, I hope you get it sorted.

If you have trouble finding the tap then try using an internal thread file, thats what I did when the threads on both sides stripped when I did my clutch change and its worked fine for me.
