Just when everything was going so well. :blast

I've succesfully installed City Navigator 2008 and unlocked the maps. I've managed to download the vast majority of Europe onto the 2Gb CF card (all the maps add up to 2.374Gb so I just deleted the maps for areas I was highly unlikely to visit to bring it down to the size required) and I've upgraded to the latest version for the GPS unit itself, but I can't upgrade Mapsource (to version 6.13.7) for love nor money, and it's driving me bloody nuts. :nenau

When I go to the "Updates & Downloads" section of the Garmin site ie HERE I click on "Mapping Programs" and choose Mapsource 6.13.7. So far so good. I have now downloaded the latest version 4 times, but when I try to install the latest version, I get a message saying

"The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package "MAIN.msi" in the box below
"

Clicking OK doesn't work, but using the search facility in Windows Explorer, I can't find any folder holding anything called "MAIN.msi".

What the hell am I doing wrong?? :nenau

Have you tried clicking 'Run' as opposed to 'Save' when presented with the download dialogue box?

Aha. I have clicked on "Run" from the off, rather than "Save". Perhaps this is where I'm going wrong - I'll give it a crack later and report back. :thumb2

Is anybody else having problems with the Garmin site? I've been trying to log onto My Garmin since Thurs / Friday night but I just get a message that the site is being upgraded.

Three days seems a hell of a long time. :nenau

Here...

Taff,

Try here

I have just downloaded ver6.13 with no problems.

Taff,

I have exactly the same problem!! please let us know if you do find a solution.

BTW: I did try downloading the file to my desktop first (i.e. used the 'save' not 'run' option) but still no joy when actually running the file to install.

Regards,
Dale

That's the one I've been trying. No matter whether I go to Garmin.com or Garmin.co.uk, on my computer it still says the site is being updated. :nenau

I still haven't found a solution. As a last resort, I may just give Garmin support a ring - but I'll brace myself for a long wait. :(

To hell with the latest version of Mapsource - it's the maps (CN2008) that are important!

Sounds like it could be more a problem with windows installer. You can go to Micro$oft's site and get an upgrade for your installer. Just do a search for it. I had a similar problem with a new XP installation back a while when trying to install third party programs.

Fair point, but there may be some useful features on the new version - I was glad I'd upgraded Mapsource previously, otherwise I wouldn't be able to link tracks etc. And it is "free" after all.

I've got the latest maps as well BTW (upgraded from Version 7) but may as well update everything while I'm at it. :thumb2

Thanks. If I don't get anywhere with Garmin, I'll get my computer man at work to look into it, as it sounds as if this is going beyond my computer skills.

Nope, unfortunately that's not solved the problem. Downloaded and installed the new Installer without problem, but Mapsource still won't install.

Have sent a query to the local Garmin lads, so will see what turns up.

Did you have any joy Dale? :nenau

No. Have not been able to solve the problem.

it looks like you need to start fiddling in the registry which I don't want to do. Also. I am due for a new PC in 6 months time and this one is working fine with the older version of Mapsource, so I am not going to bother.

Dale.

I tried to update Mapsource using it's update feature and what got downloaded wouldn't work. I then went to the site and downloaded MapSource_6137.exe directly and then ran that. It upgraded Mapsource with no problems.

If you had a reply from Garmin, would it be possible for you to either e-mail the instructions to me or post them on here? I don't think my computer skills are up to it, but one of the boys in work is pretty good.
