I did this last year and had an excellent time, it wasnt my first offroad experience as I'd used the GSA and also been on a day with Huskavana, but I probably learnt the most from this days training.

You need to have you're own offroad kit (including proper MX boots) but you can hire either a 450 or a 250 Yam for the day - or use your own bike. I've got to be honest I don't remember seeing anything as big as a BM there, but I'm sure they could accomodate you if you check with them first. Personally I went for a WR250 as it was a much easier bike to learn on.

I'm definately going to do this one again this year and would totally recommend it to anyone else.

The break everyone into one of three groups at the start of the day (Novice, Intermediate and Expert) you are then circulated between three groups of instructors each covering a different type of exercise... if I remember right from last year, basically the day is split into four periods, 1st three are training, last one was a free session.

Its a great course, really good instruction and apparently Patsy Quick has even been known to use the ground.

Sorry mate, had to be something I'd miss, at least I got the year right this time ;)

found it on http://www.enduronews.com/events.htm

Cheers for posting up a link to the entry form, my bad :(

edit: I can't find any reference out there to point to the training ground, but looking on maps.google, it seems there's a lot of stuff South and West of Bagshot - it looks like the kind of location they used last year - but I maybe wrong.

Pleasure, your link to entry form is more direct now anyway. Will probably do it myself this year, even easier for me to get to if it is the trg area between Bagshot-Chertsey. Probably will have to be the Sunday. If they can fit me in.
Ive just tried phoning Alan Cook to check on places and location.....military and poets. wil try again on Monday.

cool, its only just gone up on Enduro events so hopefully there should be plenty of spaces, I'm easy with Friday or Sunday - but I'm guessing they'll have no end of spaces available for Saturday :D

forgot to post the maps.google link last time, god I'm forgetful today. I'm ony guessing it might be one of those locations

Cut & paste from TEAM REME. There was no electronic link so sorry for length.

I have put in for Sunday. Will leave newbury by 0730 if you are on the same day and travel on the A4 out of wiltshire.
What other kit do you need to wear LL? Never been to an organised off road enduro thing so am just used to wearing what i want/feel comfortable in.

I guess the big thing is to make sure you'll stay dry... I didnt have any problems staying warm on the last one :)

last year was the first one I did and also really the start to me doing more two wheeled stuff off-road. Talking to them before hand, the only thing I really needed was a proper pair of mx boots, they advised against anything less. I don't think they'd have turned anyone away, but it makes sense.

I'd also bought some Sinisilo gear as I didnt want to trash my Rukka road stuff. The only other thing I got was knee pads - again more safe than sorry.

Helmet wise, I had a Tour X2 last year, but I wasnt getting enough air, so I've gone for a VX3 - all they care about though is its legal - get yourself some googles or safety specs

There's a burger van onsite, but I'd carry some water too.

To be honest I've only been to two "proper" events REME and Tidworth both last year, REME was more relaxed than Tidworth and more of a training day than an enduro. That's not to say Tidworth was stressed, but it seemed a lot more organised which I guess is right.

Cheers. Am alright for helmet, goggles and boots. (I think)Will wear them on the way there on the GS, keep the panniers free for flasks and food. Just wanted to make sure you didnt need any other sort of protection to comply with the rules.
Surprised again that no one else is interested, (i read your post late last year,) especially as this year it is an easy to get to location not far off the M3 - A329.

knee pads

Last w/end 8 of us did the 2 day Geraint Jones Training School at his place in Wales. We all thought it was the best course we had done and came away happy:clap 1-2 injuries mainly because they had no knee pads or body armour on so worth considering. Alot depends on how hard you want to push yourself its easy to get carried away  Im sure you will all enjoy it:thumb

Hey Bonnie, thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoy the school! If this one is anything like last year there's a good number of their instructors along, support from REME riders and I think a couple of the REME instructors - the whole lot where really friendly and helpful last year, all really encouraging. I don't remember any particular injuries last year, but I nearly came a real cropper flying over the handle bars when I was supposed to be jumping logs - very lucky miss :eek

Russ, Bonnies right about the protection, I'd look at getting some knee guards at least - they arent expensive and I've known some people to use B&Q knee pads - I bought some of these they are cheap, do the job and I can also use them for DIY projects - they are a lot more comfortable than the B&Q ones!

I bought a 661 pressure suit for the Tidworth event, its great comfy and warm, but I'm not sure how much protection they really give, all the places I've hurt myself in the past are really covered, but it feels good all the same :D

Your right, I'm surprised there isnt more interest here... last year I put it down to the short notice I gave everyone, but maybe its just that it's not a Blue and Black event... (or maybe they all think I smell ) but the way I figure it £75 for a days instruction pretty much on your doorstep, you can't really go wrong!

So Russ are you using the GS or have you hired something down there?

and

Bonnie would you do another of their events?

Cheers Bonnie/LL. I will find some padding to wear.

I will turn up on the GS (wrong tyres) but have booked a 450 for the day. I used to have a XR 250 as a second bike before i got the GS and used it off road a fair bit and as a winter bike. I sold it not too long after i bought the GS as the bike was more than capable of doing all the things i had two bikes for before. After sitting astride the GSA the XR seemed so small so my reasoning is a 450 will be closer to the size of bike i need some trg for. I may be making hard work for myself but i am sure i will still enjoy it. Probably a 'black and blue' day for me!

What about you and have you booked a day yet?

Yep, all sent yesterday, I'm going to trailer my wr450 up in the morning

If you've already done some offroad stuff you should be fine with the 450 they are a lot of fun, but don't be too surprised if they only have 250's on the day, I don't remember seeing any 450s to hire last year, but I might have not been looking well enough

if it does happen, don't worry, the WR250 is just as good and will likely knock spots of the XR (I've still got a XR250 Baja, great bike but totally different to the WR)

Got mine yesterday too. Im in on the Sunday. Make sure they dont break all the hire bikes! :thumb

great time

I did it on my gg200 ec and my son (15) on his yz125. We both had a great time, my son was sat on Geraint Jones shoulder for both days and was telling me how fast and smooth he rides  i was at the back most of the time :augie On sunday Tom Sagar :clap and Garaint took us out :thumb
Have considered doing this as well but to far down south and would need to stay over night.
