New Distillery In Fife

No much chance o' me gettin' gainfull employment as a spy wi' the Security Services. Somebidy built a whisky distillery and got it operational aboot 10 miles fae ma hoose and I knew bugger a' aboot it until the day :blast

It's called the Daftmill distillery

Imagine oor Wully takin' a wee shine tae this when it's on the market. The roond will be shouted, "A Daftmill for Daft Wull" :D
 
A cheeky bastid sent me a PM sayin' that if he wanted to hide a distillery fae me, he'd disguise it as a church. :( That's an affie thing tae say aboot me...

All the materials and workmanship (apart from the stills which came from Speyside) were sourced within a 5 mile radius of the farm distillery. The malt barley is grown on the farm and the water is from a farm spring.

ye dina ken whit yer missin ye jist need tae persist a wee bit. And dont start wi the cheapie stuff (that comes later whin yer a lost cause) try some of the realy good single malts.:comfort:oonyack

dae ye no just wonder if the fine n subtle flavour o some o these (specialist) whiskies come fae the local sheep pishin in the burn. Mind you am lik ma faither in law a think there o guid:augie

I was showing some of the lads this new distillery offshore todsy and one of them recognised one of the buildings behind the distilery..."Thats the nut house" he explained. I an't belive they have called the whiskey Daftmill because its next to a mental hospital but it may just be true....anyone know if its true??

If you click on Ronno's link, and click on "About Daftmill", there's an explanation of the name which says:
"
So why the “daft” name?
Because of the local topography the stream appears to run uphill!

So local people called this backward-running burn the “Daft” Burn.

Inevitably, the mill that it powered became known as “Daft Mill”."
 
The first explanation's more likely to be true. We're talkin about Fife, remember!:augie

I contacted Francis Cuthbert at Daftmill recently and managed to get a wee tour (there's not enough for a bigger tour) for some tourist guides. He is very approachable and interesting to listen to.

Maybe you could arrange a wee visit of some GSers. Ye'd have to behave and they dinnae have a bar.
