Last weekend 8 lads from Belfast
headed off to sunny Malaga for a long weekend of motorcycling. Fed up with wet summers and this years cold winter we booked €60 return flights to Malaga and headed off for sun, sea and well erm.......dust!
The weather was a kind 20degC with blue sky and we headed out for 9hour days on the bikes.
The weekend was organised by Hana at Motoadventours, in conjunction with GS Heaven who provided some bikes and accomodation, the remainder of the bikes and guiding service being provided by Motoadventours. We went for a 60% off road weekend, with some fantastic pistes in the mountains behind Malaga and Marbella, one piste was approx 30km, fantastic!
The bikes were a mixture of GS800s, GSA1200s and we were able to swap bikes to try them out. Everybody had varying degrees of experience from ex irish road racer to enduro background, newly licensed to old farts and even a quad rider (we got him converted
)
The guiding services were provided by David Sobredo from Motoadventours on his trusty Africa Twin. David speaks excellent English and grew up riding and competing enduro in this area and knows all the routes, food stops etc. By using a guide we maximised the value of our time, and had the backup in case of punctures etc.
Everybody had a great time, and looks like its set to become an annual event.
A few tips to anyone thinking of similar weekend:
GS Heaven is a superb location. The accomodation, bikes and service at Casa Don Carlos in Alhaurin is superb, spotlessly clean and 5 star in every way. Carlos and Ronald are great hosts and offer a very friendly base. See them at

Motoadventours organised bikes, accomodation and guiding services for us. Highly recommended. They can provide Teneres, 800GS's and 1200GSs. If you dont want to waste time being lost (most of the offroad pistes are not on maps or GPS) consider using a guide to get the most out of your weekend. They also provide bike storage services. Lastly take time to explore this area after riding the bikes for a few days, Gibraltar and Tarifa, Marbella and Puerto Banus are all close to hand. We waited until after finishing on the bikes before having a blowout. One word of caution, Puerto Banus becomes a very different place after dark, seedy in the extreme with ladies of the night everywhere, watch your pockets and wallets carefully!
Here are a few photos to finish
Thanks to Carlos, Ronald, Hana and David for a great weekend from
Ken, Ian, Andrew, Darryl, Michael 1, Michael 2, Doit and David.
