Just spend half the afternoon trying to find a good location for a Stebel Magnum.....I like a decent horn..... without success.

The bike is an 2010 model with ESA. Not a lot of free space!

Can someone PLEASE point me in the right direction.

Cheers

Mike

I had been looking at these on the Nippy Norman site from which I gathered a straight swap was possible. Obviously not from what you say, not much help I know but may have saved me loads of grief.

I had the same problem. It will fit in the same place as the standard horn but I did'nt like the way the brake line fouled under braking. So, I fitted a Migsel light bar, HID'd my Aux lights, and fitted a pair of Magnums (139db) on the light bar. Very expensive way of doing it but most satisfying when I press the horn button. Oh, and needed seperate wiring loom and relay to trigger the new horns. One of these days I will join the 21st century and get a digital camera to show the piccies.

I did at first fix it to the front of the ESA unit but the horn failed early on - not sure why.

Stick it in the recess on the right hand side that the US version has some canister emissions thingy in

Iv'e got a 2009 gs and I fitted mine in the space behind the right hand panel, there are two places to pass a couple of strong cable ties to secure it. Just to make sure it wouldn't fall off I put another two cable ties horizontally around it.
Works a treat.

It is a straight swap as far as the canbus system is concerned. My problem is where to mount it.

Tried this, but couldn't get it safely in. Maybe they've changed something slightly on the 2010 bike.

Thought of this and its a good idea. Trying to think of a way to fix it in.

Thanks for your help and ideas

Thanks for that. I had a look at that space, but couldn't get it to fix. Maybe a slight change on the 2010 model, but its certainly worth another look. I presume you mean the top panel around the tank on the right hand side as you sit on the bike.

I must have been my usual dumb stupid self that day then.:)

I didn't say it was easy did I ;)
From memory it wasn't too difficult either,I'll try and take a pic when I can and post it here maybe that will help,I don't think the outlet of the horn is facing forward as I would have preferred but it doesn't seem to have affected the tone or effectiveness of the horn :nenau

Another view,I've located the horn in the recess for the charcoal canister on USA bikes,I've used an existing fixing and a wiring adaptor from Nippy Norman's, I put a double bend in the mounting strap supplied with the horn to gain enough clearance for the fork leg on full steering lock,it's not especially pretty and I would have preferred the outlet of the horn to face forward but space is limited, doesn't seem to affect the volume too much though ;)

Many thanks for that. I've spent most of the afternoon trying to mount it under the right hand side panel....thought I'd succeeded a couple of times and even took photos to put on here. Unfortunately when the side panel was put back the sound was muffled.

I'll cool down for a couple of days and then try your solution.

horny place

I dont have a gsa but on my 2008gs i put my magnum in front of the brake servo as you look between the front forks ,without any obstruction to the forks lock to lock an also when fully laden ,also it faces downhill so sounds louder being forward and not muffled due to being stashed in a panel,it no way will fit where the original fits without the right fork leg catching it !!! :blast :thumb2

Mike, why try squeezing it in to the front spaces where it's bloody tight to fit and wire. I fitted my last one to the rear pannier carrier on my Guzzi. With 139db it dont make a lot of difference......honest.
Cant be arsed to up load a pic.
Well we'll see eh?
