Hi guys,

Got a letter from my dealer on Friday saying, there is an outstanding recall on my bike.

'the recall is to replace the camshaft sensor ring' :nenau

Im told that the bike is perfectly safe to ride but the work needs to be done at the earliest possible convenient time.
Im also told it can be done while I wait

Anyone know anything about this and what is involved?

Bike was only in for its 1st service on 29th April :blast

Mine's in for it's first service tomorrow, they're doing the re-call work if the CSR's are in stock. I'll ask them what it does. Obviously,it's a ring and it senses the camshaft but............who knows? All the information I need is in the letter.
Hopefully it will be a simple and quick mod that gives another 10bhp,another 10mpg and emits a 50 metre force-field around the bike making;
a, the bike un-stealable and
b, the rider irresistable to sixth-formers (girls) at bus stops.

Sadly, the chances of b happening are slimmer than Ghandi's whippet.

It's probably there to determine the camshaft timing. There was a thread some time ago about a recall to cure a misfire or something that involved this. If the ring is being changed, the new one is either indexed differently or is of a different shape to ensure the correct signal to the compter.

Or it's a mechanical issue.

Maybe.

Maybe yours dosen't need it.:comfort

I've had no correspondece either.

Best regards Stretch:)

That's what I assumed, but as the 2010 GSA hasn't been out that long I find it strange that some are needing recalls and not others. Unless there just happened to be a particular batch of faulty rings that could be traced to specific bikes :nenau

...sat having my 1200GSA serviced at Clarks last wednesday when the Service guy tells a chap on a 1200RT about that recall..never mentioned it to me....unless they just did mine on the QT..I'll ring 'em tomorrow and ask for the gen....:)

...... I've heard nothing either. :)

I have a 2010 GS and received the same letter, only had the bike just over a month, I have not had time to phone the dealer yet

I think A) has the same chance as well ;-)

I've had the letter, did wonder if BMW were going for a new record.

bike collected 1st May. Due to family commitments hardly rode it that weekend.

Came home from work Friday 7th, and letter for recall was on the doormat, dated 6th May.

So 6 days and 164 miles into ownership, BMW's use of customers as beta testers strikes again.

Am I surprised? No...

Am i put off the bike - not a chance:D

At least I can get recall and first service done at the same time:augie

At least BMW are doing a recall unlike for the EWS ring and FPC, been told mine is not in the recall only the first made bikes.

Could be Snerk's also the first 2010's have the electronic fuel sensor subsequent ones are fitted with Mech. ones. (Float in Tank)
So who knows

Best regards Stretch:)

Possibly, I don't know if mine's electric or mechanical to be honest. How would i know?

Well.
I got me one of those £2.99 CD rom manual thingies off fleabay, it arrived today:)
although not for a 2010 model:( will have to wait a little longer for them to appear I think.
anyway this CD Rom shows the camshaft sensor as being that black plug arrangement just below the righthand inlet manifold and is a simple single bolt an plug jobbie
doesnt say what it does or what its for tho just where it is an how to remove an replace it. so it probably will be a short 'while you wait' in an out affair to replace it.

so there you go. ;)

2010 bikes breaking so soon:eek:,thought this was the hp2 engine,do they have this fault also?

Only did 5000miles on my HP2 Sport, but it was 100% reliable.:thumb

My mates 2010 GSA is also misfiring at high rpm. he hasn’t received any recall notice yet though.
