Hello Folks,

myself and two other biker companions are heading north on the 12th August to enjoy your stunning part of the world on our bikes. We are staying in the Argour Inn near Fort William right next to the Corran Ferry.

We only have until 15th August before we head back home to the midlands.

Could anyone recomend a "must do" road or area? We hope to visit Mull and Skye and i know the area around Strontian quite well.

Any advice on ferry crossings etc would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance and you never know, perhaps bump into one of you soon.

Regards

Would be pleased to help but need more info....

Do you prefer fast/winding or tight/twisty ?
Are you happy with single track roads ?
Are you needing to head back to Fort William each night ?
What's a comfortable maximum time in the saddle for you each day ?

What kind of advice are you looking for with regard to ferry crossings ?
If it's time & price then suggest Calmac website. Calmac run 90%+ of the ferries on the West Coast.
Some of the smaller ferries are private but they all have websites.

Hi PB

Ardnamurchan Point then across to the A830 and into Mallaig, ferry to Skye head for Dunvegan and on round to Portree over the Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh time permitting take the A890 and head for Applecross failing that stay on the A87 (Eilean Donan Castle) return to your base camp via the Commando Memorial and Fort William

Another possibility A82 to Inverness, A96 to Nairn hang a right on to the A939 to Grantown on Spey, Tomintoul, continue on turn right onto the B976 bring's you out nr Crathie Church, A93 to Braemar con't south, hang a right on to the B950 follow it thru to Kirkmichael, and Pitlochry, join the A9 North to Dalwhinnie A889/A86 (Monarch of the Glen country) head for Spean Bridge and Fort William

That should give you a mixture of Single Track and A class roads
What ever you do enjoy

Thanks for the replies so far. AA we are looking for a bit of everything road wise. Yes we are heading back everynight.

Time in the sadle 7hours is ok, probably max 300-350 miles if its A roads.

I was looking for "Must Do's" really. I want to see the solidier monument at Glenfinnin and pay my respects. And I want to ride through Glen Coe.

Scenery, view points, twisties, if you can point me in the direction of the "Best of" in my limited time that would be an enormous help.

Cheers

Some "A" roads out in the wilds are more like single track tracks, and on them averaging 40mph can be "challenging".
Tell me about it. We rode the A836 to Tongue back in April - about 50 miles of single track road with passing spaces, and hardly a house in sight. I passed a roadside pub and checked the next house - 12 miles to the nearest house. A bit un-nerving TBH. :eek

can anyone recommend me a road between Blairgowrie and Braemar? I can't be fecked looking at a map.

I'm hoping to head up that way next Saturday for a spot of flyfishig and a BBQ with some other people with mild learning difficulties.

TIA

Ronno , may i suggest the road that takes you through Bridge of Cally
. if you leave Blairgowrie and generally head north you will pass throught the town of Cally . You cant miss it . The world famous Carlsberg brewery is on your right hand side just as you enter the town hence the name . May i suggest that if you are indeed riding with folks with learning difficulties that you assume the position of lead rider , wear a hi-viz waistcoat and use the drop off method . I personally dont know wtf i'm talking about but theres many people on here in the same boat who will probably describe it better than me . Remember though mate , ride slow , we dont want these Hammerheads getting lost and poluting our beautiful country . hope this helps , p.s. if you need any more help then please dont hesitate to use the sticky at the top of this section , better still , Google maps is your friend . :thumb2:thumb2
