I promised I would do this one LOL Not many have seen ALL of these places in the Sun
Yes I figured I'd let You folks see one of the best Hols I have ever had! A few of us headed off to Scotland to attend a Wee Rally called the Antler Rally at Kilchoan which is run by Loch Lomond MCC Usually the first full weekend of September
Our Itinery was to travel from Troon (once we'd crossed the Irish Sea coutesy of P&O ferries) up to Skye on the first day and Stay with Johnny and Natasha at thier Bed and Breakfast in Waternish Skye and a LINK For Roads
Day 2 was to travel to Appleccross IF you ever get this way Do the wester Ross trail Anti Clockwise the Views from The "Pass of the Cattle" are stunning travelling that way ! Then we rode south to fortwilliam and then out to west to the Ardnamurchan peninsula the most westerly point on the UK mainland and stayed at a Superb place run by Pat a lovely lady who supplied us with a Big pot of Home made Soup! Link for Roads Day 2
Day 3 was a non Biking day across on the Ferry to Tobermory,on the Isle of Mull Link
And the Final Day I headed home early to try and get back to Surprise my Girlfriend as she wasn't expecting to see me until the Monday night Well that plan went to pooh as the ferries were affected by adverse weather and the plan went to pot So all the effort was for nothing Link for Day 4
So to Move along a bit I think I have it now
Lets See If I can make this work now It's my first attempt at a ride report
Again this is Ballachulish just beside us is a lovely wee shop doing food coffee etc etc and crafts and souvenirs
Looking out west we are seeing the Munros ( I think? ) some mountains are up to about 3000 feet these are on the Ardgour penisula
Noth of Fortwilliam is the Commando memorial not many folks get to see it in such stunning weather (Spean Bridge)
Travelling on North you then turm west onto the A87 with some Fine sweepng corners and again stunning scenery this is Lough Cluanie from the North west
I can imagine this will be a desolate place in winter
We then carried on down to a Turntable ferry (only one of it's kind in UK I believe) at Glenelg - Kylerhea Some fine twisty single track roads
This is where we are going looking across the sound to Skye
Just in Good Time
This is also a Tea room Ferry Company link Here
The Moment when Conal decided to ask the gentlemen if they swung both ways making a joke of thier turntable deck which does 360 degrees
My Favourite picture of the whole trip
Next We're on Skye
Once off the ferry this is the view back to the mainland (East ish)
A little further on and looking west
We met Johnny who came down on his Varadero from Waternish to lead us back up to his B and B at Waternish
This is the gang gathered in front of his house the B and B is a new extension to the back
From left to right we have Hugh , Johnny, Tim , Granty and Conal
A young Neighbour always happy for a stroke or a ball to be thrown
Heading back Down Skye on the Friday heading for Applecross and then on to Fortwilliam and Kilchoan
It's a Different world up there sometimes
Then Down into Loch Carron
And more twisties I didn't know about the Clockwise following of the Pass of the Cattle So we did it both ways for stunning views :-D
Where one of our Rice Burner pals succombed to a tad of exhaustion and looked to the others for support !
and none was forthcoming
Granty just outside the Applecross Inn the food and the Staff were marvellous
Hugh Recovering after his fall LOL
Stand Back that is Mine! Scallops fried with smoked bacon in "Jus" on a bed of rice with salad YUM YUM
This was one BIG seagull
Just an interesting panel on the Viewpoint on the Hill
Then The View Back Down the Pass of the Cattle Now you see why you do the Wester Ross trail anti clockwise ;-D
Tim Looking Thoughtful on a Break at LoughCarron
Eilean Donan Castle where some of Highlander was filmed
Another sunset shot heading out to Kilchoan on the Peninsula
and that leads us on out to Pat's place at Kilchoan Next morning as it was dark when we got there
The Community Centre where the rally is held
An unusual Sidecar set up
A friend Megan on her 500 Gamma getting the Ferry to Tobermory
The delightful village / harbour of Tobermory made famous by a Kids story in the UK called "Balamory" Google if you must but it's for Kiddies LOL
Our transport
3 brave adventurers LOL thats me on the Right! The Suave sophisticated lookin one ;-)
and That superb Sunset to bring the curtain down on the ride report
About 800 miles in 3 days and a couple of nights partying and the adventures of the foul weather getiing home again Will I be there next year again?
