History bit.

Last year when there were the Battle of Britain 70th anniversary celebrations, on a ride I unexpectedly came across the grave of a young pilot - alongside the road near Newchurch. A young RAF pilot who crashed nearby. His memorial in the middle of nowhere.

So with all of that in mind I've put together a route from Maidstone, down past RAF Hawkinge, to the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne for a coffee break, along the coast to Dymchurch and up to Newchurch for a stop at the grave, then back up through lanes to Maidstone. There will be a stop off for lunch somewhere - I'm going to ride the route again and confirm a suitable stop.

For those who are familiar with my rides - they are usually a ride out and then make our own way home. This one is more of a quicker ride to Newington (Folkestone) and then a more interesting ride back.

As a bit of a charity fund raiser I've decided to ask for a £10 donation to Help for Heroes - to tie the past to the present.

09.30 start from junction 5 M20 coastbound.

Anyone interested??

p.s. I'm off to the TT tomorow so won't be logging on until Sunday 12th so there'll be no posts from me

Will there be Fish & Chips for lunch?

If so, I might come along as long as we get to see the sea and there's Mushy Peas in the Chippy.

Initially I am up for this, but need to check my work diary and discuss with my lovely wife !

The 10th July is memorial day so there is going to be official events there all day. The place opens at 11:00 and the RAF/ATC are going to be there. spitfire fly past but not sure what time.
Parking will be difficult even for bikes.

Change of date for run - Sunday 17 July

Thanks for that Joe...................................

As there are official things going on I suggest moving the run back one week to avoid the possibility of being in the way.

SUNDAY 17 JULY - Battle of Britain Run

As a mere coincidence it will allow people to go to the Mallory Park Festival of 1000 bikes if they have the inclination to do so

I suggest moving the run back one week

Is that the back in the way which is referred to the calander, which I actuallay think is linearly forward, to the 24th (see what I mean), or back in a Dr Who, TARDIS and Einsteinian relativistic kind of way, to the 10th.

It's important to me as, a time traveller, because it will determine whether I stay in Bournemouth after the Hog Raost or Southend on Sea before the Boxer Beat, or somewhere in between with a naturist beach and a pub.

Hope you didn't get too wet on the ride home. :thumb

'kin 'ell - what's to make of that then??

ORIGINALLY posted for Sunday 10th July.

JoeC posted that there were official things happening at the National Monument so I put back the ride from the 10th to the 17th.

I asked Paul G (BHT) to change the heading to the 17th.

Back is as back from the 10th to the 17th. As in calendar.

Forget about Dr Who and all that tosh.

Hog Raost 1-3 July

BoB ride out 17 July

Boxer Beat 29-31 July

Thank you - nice wet ride home - started in Yorkshire and dried up just North of the M25. All kept out by Hein Gericke :thumb2:thumb2

Can't make this one

Sorry Kev - we have a weekend camping trip arranged that clashes with the run.

Unfortunately for you and us it also means that it'll be peeing down with rain for the whole weekend across the south east!!

Cheers,
Andy
