Hi all,
Well, I have finally done it today. Have ordered my new 1200GS in Lupin Blue.I am coming back to the BMW brand after 2yrs. Had an F800GS which used to run on 98octane unleaded, question is, does the 1200 prefer the 98 or will it run ok on 95 unleaded? Yeah, I could ask the dealer, but thought I would ask, seeing as I was on the forum. Can`t wait to get it now & hopefully pickin up next Sat :) Dynamic & comfort pack + £800 worth of free goodies....Happy Days.

Or if you want it to run as BMW intended use 98 octane. (it's all in the handbook :thumb)

The type of fuel or grade is relative to the type or grade of oil used, check page 91 of the manual ;)

i've run 95 and 98 back to back. no discernible difference.

cheapest 95 i can find for me :)

Have always used 95 in my GSA and it runs fine. Have tried 98 in other bikes over the years and couldn't notice any difference.

fuck me your absolutely bang on, 95 is listed as an alternative , thanks , i had a k1200s that i always put 98 in but for last 5 years ive put nothing but 95 in gs , havent noticed any issue but i'll try the 98 now.:clap

sorry if we confused the poster.

Spoke to the dealer today. He said just run it on ordinary 95 Unleaded. Thanks for all the feedback, but now I am confused :blast Oh well, the dealer is giving me a full tank of fuel when I pick up the bike (95unleaded, i guess) will see how it runs on that, altho, they av told me not to take it above 4000rpm till after the first service (could av started another old debate now about `running in`, lol), so i will see how it runs on the tankful of free fuel. (did I say free!) Yeah right. They must av clawed the money back on that from somewhere :augie

That's a thought

Don't know about the GS but my previous Fireblade always ran more sweetly on V-power so I've automatically used that. Perhaps I should try using the 95 stuff and save some pennies.

plus one for that been running itin my 2010 GSA for a few months now and I really can tell the difference. It is well worth th extra £!

Same here I have always used 98 Octane on GS1200 both my 2006 model and recently upgraded to Triple Black you can definately tell the difference if you can spend the extra £ Go for it and enjoy:)
