I am treating my 1150 to a set of new shocks & springs from Hyperpro / Motorworks.

Before I place my order, I need to decide what version of their shocks is right for me. They are all "tuned to order" ie. weight, type of driving, etc. but what about the shock itself?

Do I go for the basic "Hyperpro 3D" , or do I need the "Hyperpro 3D with remote reservoir" – allowing more adjustment? The price difference is 200 bucks per shock, so I want to hear your opinion.

I hardly ever ride with a passenger and I am not sure when I would need to adjust the damper, other than spring tension –*but maybe you will tell me otherwise? :-D

Your advice - puuhleeeze!

I am researching the same thing for my Vara, I reckon that I will give the "knob" a miss. As long as it is set up properly for me. I never carry any amount of luggage and my wife goes pillion a handfull of times a year, when the pace is slower...

I am looking at Ohlins 500€ was looking at Wilburs 400€ but Rob Farmer turned me away from them, and suggested Maxton instead.
TBH I am swaying towards Ohlins... There is a dealer near me here in Belgium and he can do the job on a saturday for me.

I know what you mean – unless the knob is a must have, I sure will pocket the 400 bucks for other things!

I too, asked for a quote from Maxton – but got the strangest response: "The BMW paralever is a piece of crap, and it isn´t really possible to improve on it. The BMW rear suspension is not that great, either. But –*if you want to buy our suspension, we´ll be happy to sell it to you....."

So, I read on and will fit the Hyperpro. :-)

Wow, they must be doing well to lose the potential clients... I disagree my BMW 1100 had the best suspension I ever had...

Don't bother with the remote adjuster because it's for Low & High speed damping and if you can tweak that to your satisfaction to deal with bumps of different severity then I'll buy you a drink.

I'm looking at those for the near future and will not be spending the extra money for my R1150GSA.

One of the arguments for the extra reservoir, is the benefit of more fluid when the shock is working hard – like on bumpy offroad surfaces.

while on the other hand – when I hear about suspension breaking down, it is very often the aux reservoir that starts to leak. Maybe simpler is better? Huh?

I'd suggest a PM to Walter (user name = Colebatch). He has used Hyperpro extensively and knows the guys at the factory very well. In your place it's his experience and knowledge I'd want to tap into.

I'd pay the extra and have the remote adjuster for the back if I was using it for camping/touring, a regular mix of 1 and two up and some fast winding roads/track days. Otherwise the cash stays in the pocket.

I have Wilbers on mine and have done over 30,000 miles on them without problems but others who've used them hard on washboard dirt roads for example have had failures, same with Ohlins users. The Hyperpro's have a thicker damper rod which means a bigger surface area for seals etc. and just seem to be tougher. Mine will get Hyperpro next change.

If you just spec the remote for the rear you can think of it as spending your tax benefit from the increased personal allowance:)

Great suggestion –*thanx – but "Colebatch" is no longer on the member list. He must be out dialing in his Hyperpros :bounce1
