We're already signed up for EVIP and $1m SLI Insurance for the bike trip but don't have personal insurance that will cover a motorcycle trip. We've been recommended Planet Earth Insurance with 'Special Sports' cover. Anyone got any thoughts before we dive in...

Cheers guys, Martin

How long is your trip?

There are quite a few companies that offer cover, I did a 2 month trip last year and used American Express as their price was the best, but if you are going for under a month the choice will be wider.

Make sure that you read the small print only one of the providers I use to use reduced their coverage to 350cc

Have a great time

Any holiday cover should cover you but always check the small print so that is covers bikes over 125cc. My LLoyds bank account travel insurance actually covers me which is great.

However, I do like the belt and braces approach in the USA so like to include repatriation and medivac as when we go into Alaska so even a small spill may need a helicopter. I use the insurance at www.magtravel.co.uk and find them easy to deal with and a sensible price:thumb

Keep a copy of your insurance handy just in case as the paramedis etc like to see you are insured before they cart you off to hospital:augie

Cheers Sgt and wknight, I don't have any insurance via any Bank and my last foray in to holiday insurance via Comp*re the ma*ket came up blank too, none I looked at covered bikes over 125cc, mind you I must confess I didn't look too closely at the expensive end of the quotes...

21:40... Oooh! I spoke too soon! Money Super8arket has a search for motorcycle holiday insurance and the Planet Earth Insurance group are on it, I'll have to make a phone call tomorrow!

I used Direct Travel Insurance as they seem to get good reviews and were also cheap :thumb2
Cheers Sven, I'll look in to them too :thumb

At the moment Planet Earth Insurers are quoting £35 for the two week trip, that seems ok but I guess the devil is in the detail, need to make a phone call to them and get some information, that maybe Thursday as I'm working mad shifts this week :blast

Will keep everyone informed how it pans out :thumb

Thanks everyone for their input, I made some phone calls and finally choose Magtravel as recommended by Sgt Bilco above (Thanks Chris) so, insurance was £58.22 for 17 days cover specifically covering motorcycle riding. Normally this policy is limited to 1500cc but a manual endorsement was added at no additional cost covering me to 1800cc (covers a HD Road King at 1584cc).

Cheers everyone :thumb2
