Tyre pressure monitor problem c/w won't start.

Cruising at 70kph when yellow warning triangle light appears, with screen showing tyre pressures. Front tyre value is blank except for the underscore type lines, rear is fine. Steering feels ok, tyre looks ok. 3 or 4km further on, I stop at a petrol station, fill up and then go to start the bike and move over to the air hose. Readout cycles through the normal lights etc, but when I press the starter, just clicking, no starting. Get a jump lead start from the guy in the garage and go on my way. Read out for front tyre still shows nothing but several km on, I check again and it's back to normal. Home for a couple of hours and started the bike with no problems. Anyone out there experienced anything like this. This is my first post, by the way.

tyre pressure and brake malfunction.

Hi, welcome to the forum. Which model/year is your bike? How many miles? Had loads of GS's/GSA's and not had the above ever happen. Sounds like an electronics issue more than anything else. Pop to your dealer and ask them to hitch it up to the diagnostics and it will fault find for you in a jiffy. Hope this helps. Alistair.

Loose terminal on battery :nenau

sounds like an isue with that if you were able to jump it.
Have a look at that first and check for dirty terminals...

The issue with the TPS display is nothing to do with the bike not starting - thats a separate problem.

As for not starting I can only add that in over 4 years of ownership, I have had maybe 6 instances where the bike has been reluctant to restart when hot - this shows up as a very slow engine turnover, almost non-existant. This has been when I have had to restart the engine within seconds of an engine stall or say a minute or so of stopping - but the bike did start. In the same timeframe I have had one instance when the bike did as yours - refused to start when hot. In this case, the bike was left for 30 minutes and it then started up first time no problems (it had also had a new Odyssey 535 battery fitted beforehand and terminals were tight and no problems since). As to the cause I have no idea but given how often its happened I just put it down to character....

My guess is battery terminals, battery itself or charging fault.

If it started with a "Jump" then it is battery related, as mentioned, battery lead loose, battery goosed, not charging or something left on.
The fault with tyre pressure indicator could also be battery/voltage related, and will most likely go away once non start is sorted. :comfort

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Although logically the two things shouldn't be related, I felt somehow they were. Will double check the battery terminals etc, and get battery tested. Spoke to the dealers yesterday who thought it might be sign of a failing battery, and said they'd sort something out for me if it turns out to be that, as I only bought the bike a couple of months ago.

Mine has once or twice lost signal from one of the tyre monitors (possibly the front). It can also be fussy about turning over when the engine is hot. It's a 2008 bike with 42K on the clock.

Im suspicious of the battery because it can be lazy starting from cold but its always started. It also coped all through this last winter and isnt much more excited to do the job now the weather is warmer. So maybe mine is a start motor issue such as worn or dirty brushes.

Who knows if its related to the TPS.

I have had TPS display same as yours, happened after a battery disconnect. Sorted itself out for a few months, then got the blanks again. Dealer reset mine with some sort of electronic re activation. All working and good again (2010 gs1200)
