Ok gs’ers ive finally got my bike back after 3 months and £2500 , she’s torqued marked and now fitted with bmw panniers so bmw have no excuses . I’ll be road testing now . I’ve got an extra thick jumper on and an adult size nappy at the ready.
It seems I have no alternative now but to take the legal road as the release of the bike back to me suggests that bmw believe it to be safe.
So if only 1200 gs’ers who have had lower bridge bolts come loose can reply stating ; what NM bolts measured ,how old bike how many miles what tyes and if luggage {state if non bmw } fitted and what type of terrain you travel on.
I will send this information to bmw HQ .
I apologise for any inconvenience but it is easier this way than trying to track down loose bolters on the various forums and I can simply print the list off without editing . cheers
I will also be sending all this info and a full report to MCN MAGAZINE, asking them if they would publish a request to all 1200gs owners to check and report findings to this web.. I believe that we who log in are only a fraction of 1200gs owners and we should at least try and warn others of a possible fault.
It also might be helpful if each of you could write to MCN, and other magazines if you wish ,this might give us more of a chance of publication than contact from just myself
As a last thought you might want to officially inform your local dealer of this potential fault , the reason I suggest this, is that when my bike was delivered by the dealers driver , he had not heard of the dispute / fault I had reported even though he knew that my bike had been at his dealership for months , you would expect everyone in a relatively small dealership to know of such a serious potential fault , especially when the fault reported is so “unheard of”.
It also would be interesting to know if after dealers are informed of these reports that when a potential customer enquires at the dealership of any faults the bike has ,will they be informed of this !
Ill start you off;
Bike new oct 2004, 5500 miles , motorway and road use only, bridgestone trail wings tyres, givi luggage. Bolts found to be finger tight after first speed wobble at 65-70mph, torqued up by bmw dealer in france 24/ 06/2005
Speed wobble again at 80 mph which through me off , we checked bolts again and again found them finger tight. 3rd 07 2005.
thanks
