Hi, going to Norway for a 2 weeks early june, and using my lonely planet guide + autoroute i have made a list of places i would like to see (i like twisty roads and big hills + fjords, not so bothered about towns). Anyway, i know i may not be able to fit all this in, but:
1) is it feasible to see all this in 2 weeks
2) if not, what would you reccommend from my list! (or any other places?)

(forgive the spelling if incorrect)

Geirangerfjord (including the overhanging rock beginning with an f, flydalsjuvet i think)
fjaerland
andalsnes
trollstigen road + trollveggen
Alesund
Lysebotn + lysefjord (including preikstolen - pulpit rock)
voss to Lom road
sogndal to andalsnes road
rjukan and the heavy water factory

Any help much appreciated!

oh yes one more thing, are the fjord ferries (mainly lysefjord) expensive?

Dave

Do able in two weeks? Mostly.

The ferry to Lysebotn [worth the cost of the trip in itself!] and the clockwise return to Stavanger along the 45 is simply outstanding. A must do.

IMO the problem with Kjeragbolten is time. It's a lengthy hike from the cafe looking down on Lysebotn. The ferry ride and drive back along the 45 is a long day anyway. If you're camping the staying near Lysebotn would make it possible.

Don't bother with Alesund. Not the nicest area by Norwegian standards and away from the really good stuff.

Stay in Loen [south of Alesund] - a great base for exploring the area. 3 glaciers within easy reach.
Another truly outstanding ride is from Loen then east to Grotli via the old road [Gamle Strynfjellsvegen 258]then N [63]to Geiranger. Before Geiranger keep an eye out for Dalsibba. From Geiranger head to Andalsnes via the Trollstigen. Each to his own of course but, I doubt I'll ever ride a better route.

My '03 Norway [South] pics.

DO NOT EXCEED THE SPEEDLIMIT

If you'd like more details and a suggested route then PM me and I'll do one at the w/end.

Don't worry about the ferry cost - you've no choice but to use them.

You're a lucky boy and I'm not in the least bit jealous.

Norway speeding fines.....

Most things in this country are expensive  but the fines are nothing less than outrageous.....

Fixed fines for speeding…..

Fines for speedingSpeedlimit Excess speed Fine

60 km/t and lower 1-5 km/t 600 kr
6-10 km/t 1600 kr
11-15 km/t 2900 kr
16-20 km/t 4200 kr
21-25 km/t 6500 kr

70 km/t and higher 1-5 km/t 600 kr
6-10 km/t 1600 kr
11-15 km/t 2600 kr
16-20 km/t 3600 kr
21-25 km/t 4900 kr
26-30 km/t 6500 kr
31-35 km/t 7800 kr

When booked for ca 25-30km/t excess, as a rule your license disappears as well, at least for us as what lives here. There is a true story of some Harley riders that came ashore in Kristiansand a few years ago that got caught going well over the limit. They were put back on the boat and sent back/home...

Don't let any og this put you of, it'a a beautiful country and you will enjoy yourself...... :beerjug:

Internal ferries.....

To answer you question about the internal Fjord ferries.......

The prices vary according to time/distance, but didn't strike us as being particularly expensive......

For instance in '04 we used about a dozen internal ferries en route to Nordkapp & back and the total cost was less that £80.00......

Cheers

Leave your bike gear with your bike when going up pulpit rock! 3 hour round trip over the hill. If there's a tunnel, there'll almost certainly be a road going over the top which will be much longer but almost certainly breathtaking. The most beautiful place I've ever been.

We had Trollstigen on our list but it's quite a long way up though we started at Kristiansand (I think). The roads just don't go in a straight line so to get 10 miles as the crow flies you might have to do 60 or 70 (this certainly happened to us at Lysefjord when we found the ferry had stopped running).

I don't think the ferries were too bad really. 5 quid seems to be about the most we paid and there are loads of them (though we didn't do the Lysefjord ferry which ran along it rather than across it). I seem to remember being more upset about the price of the tolls on tunnels and roads though bikes seemed to be exempt from about half of them.

A lovely place, really really warm people, probably my favorite holiday.

Went to Norway last summer (Nordcap) and had an excelent time. Don't bether with camping: those nice wooden hut are everywere and not expensive (10 quids a night)
regardind speed, we didn't saw single policement in 10 days there except for Oslo. No speed cameras either. Or we didn't saw them.
Regarding prices, similar to the UK including petrol, however we didn't have restaurant meals (only fast food, very good)
Hope is usefull

Yepp, that's correct.
But the one you got there is too old; we got NOK 10,- as a coin now!

The Fjord from the ferry slip

Took the route from Kristiansand to Lysboetn back to the 45 toward Stavanger and stayed at the Preikestolen Hytter. Went to do the walk the next day 2000ft cliff 1500ft cloudbase Doh! So went of to Eidfjord. My mapsource routes are posted in the sticky in the GPS section. Top place can't wait to get back. Good waterproofs heated vest and shades are usefull. Sometimes you go into tunnels below the snow line and emerge above it. Then you can see nowt!!

Wooden Huts

Reference in one of the earlier posts to nice wooden huts in Norway for overnight stay @ £10. Been reading the Lonely Planet guide to Norway which mentions huts but these seem to be more expensive & to cater for groups. I am kind of resigned to being screwed for single supplements if I use hotel, guesthouses and a ferry cabin so any way of making the holdiay manoey go further is welcome.

Where or how do you book these huts ?
What does this actually buy you in the way of facilities ? Toilet & wash facilities en-suite ?
Should I take sleeping bag ?
