Whats the take on BMW only issuing a single key on purchase a new bike.. Has anybody taken it up with BMW UK. I was lead to believe that if I ordered another key from my dealers that I would not have to pay for it. I believe that even the dealers were unsure of the situation which inturn caused a bit of a mix up when I tried to collect my ordered key and had a request to pay for it.... Not the dealers fault but has there been any discussions on this subject.

If you moan about it, they don't charge you is basically the situation...

Simlar to the toolkit (or lack of it  )

Moaning to B*W customer services, produced full toolkit for my GSA and swmbo 650gs :thumb

Try it :D :thumb

Peed me of that I had to do that considering the amount of dosh spent there, this shouldn't have been an issue.... :(

took delivery of my gs in september only one key i requested another key. after 3 phone calls and a five month wait i recieved my key F.O.C yesterday

Discussion on this last year, here

Inconclusive, IIRC, seemed to be that if you moan long enough about it, you get a freebie. Also depends on the dealer

Second key

Some dealers must be better than others with this one, when I picked up my new GS last year from Jeffries didnt even have to ask for a second key, was told. "Dont worry your second Key is on order, pick it up at first service".
free of charge.
It's little things like that that give you a feel good factor about a dealer, shame theyre all not like that, they would sell more bikes that way. :clap

If your bike came with one key, your dealer should be supplying you a second metal key FOC and they claim the cost of that back from BMW via the warranty system. Whether this happens automatically or after a request by you is down to how individual dealers process it. You shouldn't have to beg/demand/shout for this to happen as this has been the official line on the subject for some months now. (Same goes for 1200RT etc).

As for the supplementary tool kit; that is down to negotiations between you and your dealer.

Got my brand spanky new 1200GS last week. (c/o PL2andahalfcolleagues)
Got 2 sets of keys + the plastic one, so there.

PS Sidestand much earlier to use in wet weather than earlier 1200GS.

2 "proper" keys and one plastic from CW Motorcycles when first picking up the bike.

Dealer explained that they have had all there warranty claims for second keys turned down. They agreed to cover the cost after a discussion but were not to happy about it. Not to impressed with BM regarding this issue. Why sour the relationship with customers and dealers over something so trivial.?? :nenau
Wonder whats next to disappear?????

Picked up mine with 2 pucker & 1 plastic "wallet" key as the salesman at Park Lane called it. Didn't ask about it, it was just there with the bike, no fuss at all. :D

2 real keys, 1 plastic, 2 remote alarm fobs, one keyring and a mug of coffee
from Prestige !
Nice one
