Will be contacting the dealer in the next day or so about my 1200 Gs which had a temporary blip on the way home tonight. Finishing off a 100 mile trip which had been uneventful when engine just died on me whilst doing 60 mph. Pulled in clutch to allow me to coast to the inside lane of the dual carraigeway, and when safely rolling towards a lay bye at about 40 tried a bump start. She fired up. Half a mile or so down the road she cut out again, and this time failed to bump so I pulled up at the roadside. Switched off, switched on, and started on the button and ran faultlessly for the 15 miles to home. I hadn't accidentally hit the kill switch, and as far as I can recollect whilst the engine was dead, the instrument panel was live. Any suggestions as to what went wrong?

They (all ! ) do that Sir.
Mine did anyway.
It's most likely fuel pump failure.
Part of the joys of doing unpiad research for Mr. BMW

It happened to me 2 weeks ago and only once. Very surprising.

I thought that my GS cutting out was me as it happened once after I had been over a speed bump.

Can anyone help as I seem to have a problem with the fuel countdown--it has gone into counter mode from 40miles-say 25miles and then resets itself back upto 40miles- the second counter is correct got me down to 3miles--any ideas?

Thanks

Neil

I think that's just the computer readjusting its estimate, based perhaps on changing driving speeds. Wouldn't worry - as you say the indication was accurate.

Although if this happens every time, it'd be worth asking the dealer to check it over - maybe the fuel gauge sensor on the tank?

Spoke to the dealer, and as bike appears to be OK at present, I am going to wait until it's 12000 mile service in the near future, unless I get more problems. Thanks for all the suggestions as to it's cause. Will post again with updates as appropriate.
