Cheap Garmin 2610

Have a look at this, Garmin 2610 for £755.37 incl VAT

I have been told that it has European base map , it has the complete car mount kit and a 256 Mb memery card and the Euro city select map CD versin 6.0

Has anyone ordered from this supplier?

Had a look for the GPSV also with european maps. Looks good. Darkhorse will just have to tell us how he gets on with delivery. Pay with a credit card so if the basemap is not what they say you have some protection.

Looks genuine - standard European package.

Couple of things to bear in mind when comparing 2610 prices:

1) Base map is not really important for the average person as you'll never use it - you can get everything you need for the average trip on the 256mb card

2) Watch you don't get suffed with a customs bill if buying on-line from the U.S. - might not turn out to be the bargain you'd hoped

The basemap does make a difference. Search PanEuropean's postings on basemaps.

A 256Mb card won't get you too far in Europe. For my forthcoming trip to Poland, I'd need 512Mb as a minimum.

Whilst this unit is priced in US$, it's being supplied from Denmark. Under the Treaty of Rome, there should be no duty to pay.

Ordered last Friday 2nd, recevive various email order updates and UPS tracking number, and it arrived yesterday.

Haven't set it up yet, but everything is in the box that should be.

Taken the plunge....

At £765 delivered, couldn't resist!

Best price I have seen for the 2610 outside US and with full Euro spec.

Should be on my doorstep after the easter weekend. Just need to get the Garmin handlebar mount and another power lead....

Too good to be true..?

I've just checked the site for the GPSMAP60C, and it's selling for £322 on their site... that's a good £70-80 cheaper than any other UK price...

... Is it really this good?

... Do they really have European basemaps?

Why So costly in the UK

So Sports extreme are selling it for £755 which is the same as they are selling in Australia.

Just why then is it so expensive in the UK...

One explanation I read somewhere here in the forum (by PanEuropean?) is that the US mapping information is free to use, while the European map data is very costly to lease...

I don't know if it warrants for those prices... but... that was one explanation.

So, big question is, is the stuff on sale on sportsextreme really loaded with the European base-maps? (as you can usually buy cheap Garmins GPS' on eBay but they've all got the US basemap in them)

Do your overseas comparisons with the mapping removed then;

Australian SP2610 is AU$1820 minus City Navigator Australia @ AU$390 = AU$1430

PS comes with 128MB CF card

The £755 was including VAT

And it's european spec? i.e it's got an european base map? (Excuse my ignorance if this model doesn't come with a basemap at all, but the GPSMAP60C that I'm hankering for comes with a basemap and it's very important to me that it's the correct one - i.e the european one)

Yes, european Basemap & software. They ( Sportextreme ) are based in Denmark, not the US, so no problems with VAT & other customs hassle either.
