I've had a Bluetooth handsfree car kit for some time and, on the whole, it works pretty well.

So I've been nagging Autocom to produce such a kit for the bike and, towards the end of last year, they started offering a Nokia kit with adaptors for whichever Autocom kit you are using.

I installed said kit on my bike a couple of weeks ago and, since then, have struggled to get it to work. I could get my phone, a Sony-Ericsson P800, to 'bond' with the bike-mounted kit, but that's all it would do.

I tried everything - resetting this and that, removing the link to my car's handsfree and a couple of wiring variations. I even tried another Nokia handsfree unit (thanks Matt!) but to no avail.

Finally, today, I dug my company phone - a Nokia - out of the drawer and tried that. It works perfectly! A phone call to Nokia confirms that their unit will only work with Nokia phones and, perhaps, some others!

It seems that whilst Bluetooth may be an international standard, the phone operating protocols are not.

It's cost me sixty quid to discover that not all Bluetooth phone devices are compatable with each other. I thought by passing that info on, someone else might not waste their sixty notes.

Perhaps I shouldn't have bothered posting.....

Glad you did bother Greg. Starcom are curently developing their Blutooth compatable unit, I wonder if they know about this problem yet?
It may be that forarmed with this knowledge they may be able to do something about it before release.

Sorry Greg .... a Luddite knee-jerk reaction on my part whenever the gadget talk gets too much. I got about half way thru yer post before I found the 'z' key.

I can see now that you were offering help based on experience .... so I'll just get my coat.

Hey Greg, thanks for spending the money for me.

I have the P800 and was very close to buying the Nokia kit - I'm glad I didn't now. I decided it wasn't a top priority as it works fine cabled up and I just didn't know how well the autocom bluetooth was going to be. There also seem to be more and more bluetooth options out there at the moment so I decided to hold back.

The Autocom lead is simply an interface between the Bluetooth speaker and microphone sockets, so I was going to get hold of a Sony-Ericsson HCB-30 Bluetooth kit (the same as I have in the car) and see if I can get that to work on the bike.

hmmm.....

Greg,

Why not get a second hand nokia phone rather than buy another kit?

I am sure someone on here might have one lying around that they don't use.

Maybe cheaper and more dependable option...

just a thought.

It's an option, and one that I'll probably use for the time being as my company phone is a Bluetooth Nokia.

But I'm really trying to avoid the whole 'two-phone' scenario. BTDT with a hard-wired phone.

Let me know if it works Greg as I might do the same. I guess Autocom sell the interface lead separately?
