I found a Stolen Recovered 2014 G650GS on an Ebay auction for a good price; and could not resist the opportunity to build a bit of a better off-road version of a 650.

This was the bike as I collected it from the auction house:

The ordering of spares started in fury, once most of them arrived, I set off rebuilding the bike:

First thing, strip out the rear shock, to be replaced with an aftermarket shock.

But once I started stripping the rear suspension, I thought it best to service all the bearing in the swingarm and links....

I ordered a HyperPro rear shock:

The next step was to strip out the ABS system as I wanted the space behind the motor to move the battery, ABS was not high on my priority list for an off-road build...

Moving the battery also requires you to reconfigure the loom to move the connectors, so I moved the starter relay while I was there.

To loom after a rewrap.

I bought a spoked rear wheel, then converted it to tubeless. this is a relatively easy process:
1. install a tubeless valve
2. clean the rim and spoke nipples with a fire wheel
3. remove grease and oil with break cleaner

4. seal the spoke holes with SikaFlex.

The finished product.

Then I striped the handlebars, and front suspension.

After installing new head bearing on a YZ250F front-end, that was installed in the frame, using the YZ's front wheel and brake calliper.
I installed bar raisers and new handlebars.
I used the brake hose from the YZ and bolted that to the BMW master cylinder.

After bleeding the brakes, I was ready for a first ride.

The bike is raised alot with the new suspension, so I need to fix the side stand (using the curb for now). I have stripped out the center stand as that is to short was well.

One thing I need to fix is the speedo, on this model it seems to run off the front ABS sensor? I build 2002 F650 with a YZ frontend, and its speedo worked fine with only a rear ABS sensor. :nenau

Another thing is that aftermarket exhaust can is loud!, even with its baffle installed, so I will need to modify that to reduce the noise.

Things that I have but still need to fit:
1. Offroad foot pegs
2. Crash bars
3. Bash plate
4. Hand guards
5. LED indicators
6. LED Taillight assembly

The list of bigger things still to do:
1. modify the ABS ring and sensor to mount on the front wheel (Speedo, I have read that the ECU uses speed inputs, but not convinced yet. I in install a DMD2 dash, I will not need this for the speedo)
1. Build a Navigation tower
2. Shape a screen for the navigation tower
3. mount LED headlights
4. mount 8 Table running DMD2 on the navigation tower.

So there are at least 2 months of Sundays worth of work still left to do.

Always look at builds like this and wish I had the skill and patience :thumb

It’s looking great

Ok, the problem is that the ABS unit sends the wheel speed signal to the speedo, so pulling out the ABS unit breaks the feed. there is a direct feed to the speedo that works for non-ABS models, so I only need to do some wiring:
