getting to Turkey

Going with wife end July to Turkey. Will be taking following route - Belgium - Germany - Austria - NE Italy - E coast Italy - ferry crossing to N. Greece - Turkey:Istanbul. Got just over 4 weeks. Will be looking to mainly camp but also occasional accomodation if available.

Anyone recommend decent camp sites and / or secure cheap hotels?
Anyone done the trip and able to give hints, tips, advice?
Is it safe to camp in Turkey?

Any advice welcome

Just be extra careful on the road

They drive like mad, with little respect to traffic laws or common sense.

Apparently there is a M/C club in Turkey who are very helpful. I think they are called the "one more mile M/C club"

watch out for the dolmushes.....minibuses driven like they're paris dakar top of the range racing trucks.

ride in the middle of the road...you've got more chance of avoiding the locals who come past on alternate sides of the road.

real friendly folk though like nearly everywhere alse in the world as soon as they realise ya not a tommy tourist and you smile...and there's as much if not more accessable history there than there is in greece or italy put together....again, locals are the key...i did a while there on foot backpacking and outside of the town centres it was fantastic...
