One for the electronic guys amongst us

I know the charging voltage for the Garmin Quest is 5V. My cell phone takes 3.7V. I would like the cell phone charger to serve as a backup for my GPS charger. Anyone can advise whether this is possible? Running both at 5V or rather 3.7V, or are tolerances that broad it doesn't make any difference?

Tnx for your comments

Cheers

In a word (or two) - not possible

3.7v into a nominal 5.0v unit will not float the battery, never mind charge it. :nono

5v into your phone will make your phone behave like a heated grip.

There are power supplies with variable outputs (from 12v dc) that come complete with various plugs, but if your phone has a multi-plug input - that isn't an option.

Run your Quest from its normal 12v feed, and fit an underseat Cigarette lighter socket for your phone. After all - your phone doesn't need to be connected to the charger all the time.
