Hi, i am off to cyprus for my hols, I have Garmin Nuvi1390t, I have been quoted £90 by Geomatic maps for a sd card with cyprus maps on. they will work with the garmin, Geaomatic are approved 3rd party suppliers for garmin. The only problem is the price.

anyone have any suggestions of a cheaper way of getting maps or any experiance of hireing a gps on cyprus

thank...Ian

Have a look at openstreetmap.org. We used their mapping on a Nuvi whilst in Florida last October, it worked very well. You can get Gamin installers from here.

The detail looks pretty good for Cyprus but the street names seem to be minimal outside of towns.

When are you coming? Where are you staying. I might be able to help you with a SD card.

If you have Mapsource/Basecamp on your PC/Mac and a Garmin that will download maps OpenStreetMaps is a good solution for Cyprus. I use the routeable OSM mapping in both the North and South and it works well

A few of the newer unsealed or Community roads are missing in the South but it appears that data is logged and recorded even more frequently in the North

Select the country (Cyprus also includes Crete in the two tiles you need) from http://http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ and within a couple of hours you will be emailed a link for the download that will install the mapping in Mapsource for you to use

There are also apps with downloadable mapping that work with smartphones - I have used them on Android and iOS in Cyprus

Thats some very useful information there.

I'm off to Cyprus in June (been going there at least twice a year since 1992)

I've explored most of the south, but a satnav on my Android would be useful.
