My 24.000 mile service was only about £350.00 at Wollastons and they did a lot more than you've had done

Caveat Emptor.

Sorry you got RIPPED OFF !!!!!

Shop elsewhere next time.

Thanks for the heads-up.

I just had my 18K service in Brighton and it was £260, so not bad...
However I am concerned as I am not sure what they checked on the bike, yes I got the invoice with what was changed but nothing to advise the status of my bike ( brakepads, tyres and so on ) do you guys get that from your dealer?

Are you saying you need somebody to tell you that the brake pads or tyres are worn:comfort:rolleyes:

Did you ask ?

Tell us what you've done Neil.

Did you have it out with them or just roll over?

Hi Guys,
thank you for the reply, yes I did ask and they told me that I can not have it, as they only give it to you if there is an issue with the bike.
That is why I am concerned as I am sure my front tyre looks pretty low so I am surprised.

And yes I could check them myself, but as I have just spent £210 in labour I would expect them to do it!!! and I got them for all my other services.

Can you guys let me know if is normal to get them?

what, you mean the RE-USABLE rubber ones that dont need to be replaced?

if they are reusable then he was done - all depends wahat is says in the service guide though!

When i called around for a service everywhere quoted for the same gaskets so i suspect the manual says to replace rather than reuse.

obviously if it was DIY then they would be reused.

Sorry to hear that you got ripped off mate, shame you dont live near me I would of done it for a lot less and I have had quite a few years of working in the trade so I know what they get up to behind those doors.

Always happy to service a fellow tossers bike for a lot less than the going fee.

All the best

Mark.

8,000 miles, 4 years and £498.52. Doesn’t sound bad to me! I’ve just visited the guys in Battersea and found it a pleasure. I currently run a K1300S on a 09 plate and paid just over £230 for the 6k and annual service with all the brake fluid which I thought was fairly reasonable. Although there were some new faces in the service department I found the guys there a great help. Had a coffee and a pastry while I was booked in and picked up the bike all finished and clean a few hours after. I will admit I found on my old 1200GS a little dearer to service as I had to have the brake fluid changed every two years but I believe the servo assistance is the reason behind that

had a look in the reprom - says replace if damaged.

go back to the delaer asn ask them why it was replaced.

It would be nice if NeilM gave us an update

Get a quote first before you go the whole hog

I used to get the beast serviced at Battersea. I would ask for the standard service at the appropriate mileage, for which I was quoted the charge. I would ask them to please call me if they spotted any problems or additional items that needed attention BEFORE they went any further, and they would then quote me for the work. The sum total would always make my eyes water.

I would then say no thanks and take my beloved to a reputable mechanic (Steptoe) with a lovely list of items that needed looking into, or if it was simple enough, I would do it myself.

Now I don't even bother with the official BMW guys, but worth a go in the early days of the bike's life when the official stamps can be considered important for the resale.

I have never needed to replace the larger outer gasket ( i.e. the expensive one) on any model of GS during a service.
I've sometimes needed to replace it if the bike has slid down the road and had rocker cover damage, but even then not everytime.

The round inner plug gasket can often need replacing if it's been inserted incorrectly in the past.
