Hi

Just had my 1150gsa valued for p/ex (against a R12GSA / R12RT, haven't decided yet) and was offered £4k. Seems a bit low to me, but what do you reckon? I've had a look on autotrader and although most of the ones on there are different spec etc, they seem to go from about £6k upwards.

Mine is an 02 model 1150GSA non ABS (with the 22l tank) , black, 19,000 miles, Hepco and Becker engine bars, BMW ally top box with FSH. Its an import, full uk spec, the only difference being that it doesn't have the clock/fuel guage/oil temp thingy. It has a remus pipe fitted but I have the original too.

Anyone got an informed idea as to how much I'd get privately ? I'm looking at changing bike in about 3 months so no rush, I'm just getting an idea at the moment ........

Any advice gratefully received

Cheers

JT

.. and a 22 ltr tank

What else? Suggest perhaps a few things otherwise yours would be worth the same wouldn't it.

Thats it...... I know being an import reduces its value but didn't think by that much.

Even so I don't reckon I'd be taking the **** asking for £5k (ish) privately - 'spose I'll have to wait and see. As I say I'm not planning on selling immediately; I'm planning on selling around feb/march but knowing me that'll turn into sept / oct by the time I get round to it......

On the first GSA the 30l tank was an option and not standard. I think it was about £250

if you were that stupid.me finks somebody's gunna make lots of money out of you.good job your not stupid £4k 2002 gsa = £5k plus in the autotrader.

GS1150ADV, Import? They all are sir!

Hi JDT.

My 02 GSA came from a BMW dealer in Braunswieg and when I ordered it I had a choice of 22 or 30 litre tank, overland package as well as the option of RID display, ABS etc and seat colour(All from the German spec sheet). The main reason I had my bike shipped from Germany was at that time in Scotland I was told I would have to wait over a year for a new GSA with very few options available due to limited numbers!!

Turns out a neighbour of mine bought a UK bike recently and it too is an 'import' but he didn't know untill he noticed the headlight pointed the 'wrong' way in the dark but the speedo is in mph!

Another neighbour has a R1150GS 'import' and his miles are mostly abroad, he's happy with a kph clock! :thumb

Does it make any difference to resale prices? Maybe when you trade in but not so much when you're buying! It would have been interesting to see how much the dealer would have priced your bike 'out' at!

The bottom line is when I bought my GSA it was nearly two grand cheaper than a identically specced but not available UK bike!! :thumb So maybe I'll loose a bit on trade in, if I ever decide to sell it that is, it's just too damn good!! :D

Wife was offered 2k for her 05 gs650, just over 6000 miles, that was px against a new gs1200.....feck right off were me thoughts

8 months ago I paid under £6K (god this won't help if I go to sell!) for a 53 plate, UK, black GSA with 18K miles. Proper tank ;) , Servo ABS, engine bars, low seat, system panniers.
I think the post-LWR market has died off a bit and that along with GSA12s etc means that there isn't a lot of movement at the moment.
In that respect I'd say ask for £4750 private and you'll shift it, go for anything starting with a 5 and it'll hang around. I think you'll sell it eventually at £5K but you'll be waiting a while.

Put it another way, if I lost £500 on mine in a year (and people who jumped on the band wagon are used to losing a lot more than that) and was selling it at £5250 come March (53 plate remember, and a proper tank), would people pay the extra for mine??

Bu99er, just remembered the BTBR light mod I had fitted, must add thousands!!

Good luck.

Cheers for all the advice - reckon on the basis of that I'll be looking at £4.5k - 5K.... suppose thats worth the extra hassle of selling private.

If you know anyone in the market for an import GSA and they don't like big tanks or fuel gauges, tell them to keep an eye on autotrader in feb... ;)

Doesn't matter what you ask - it's what someones prepared to pay that decides what anythings worth. See how many of those bikes advertised at £5K, that have actually sold. Very very few.

I know of "real" ADV's selling for 5k, low mileages, FSH and with all the bells and whistles.

You have to put yourself in the buyers shoes - why would he want to buy yours, compared to paying the same money as a bike with all the parts fitted that your hasn't got.

I sold a 2001 1150GS for £2700 - didn't have that many people interested. The buyer put it on ebay, with a buy it now price £3700 - no takers.

Good luck, but the longer you leave it, the price will only go one way, down .
