‘M off….bus wnkr hike.

Good luck, you probably don’t need it but good luck nonetheless :thumb2

You did get your postal vote in didn’t you?
I think some luck will be needed and very welcome.

Re the postal vote. I’m going to miss out on that as it hasn’t arrived yet.
I reckon Rishi knew that I was going away and seriously thinking about putting my X in the Reform box and called the election early 😂😂

You could have redirected it to me, you’ve got my address and I wouldn’t let you down.

Well, I left home this morning at 03.30 and I’m in Paris. At a bus station that has varying strengths of piss smell.
Still, only another hour and a quarter here and the next BlaBlaBus leaves for a luxury overnight trip to Hendaye, right on the border with Spain.

You’ll appreciate your tent when you get into it

So romantic in Paris.
Fab. I like bus stations, as I do railway stations and airports. I like to people watch and wonder where they're going and why. Happy reasons? Sad? Romantic? To break bad news? Holidays? Finding themselves? Losing themselves? Running away from something/someone? Returning to someone they didn't know they needed in their lives?
So many possibilities.
Enjoy the rest of your journey.

You may have timed it perfectly a series of storms passed over yesterday evening/night (I'm currently in Gavarnie, Fr ) crap forecast for later today and all tomorrow then brightening up. What an epic walk you have ahead..

The weather isn’t looking to good for tomorrow or indeed for the next few days after that.
But before I descend, actually it would be ascend, into the rain and gloom of the hills tomorrow….the bus journey.

I did get quite a bit of sleep thanks to one of those neck pillow things. I got lucky with the one I bought I suppose.
Apart from the Paris to Tours leg being like a sauna and me reminding a chap at about 3am that we didn’t all want to listen to his shit music/gilm whatever it was it was OK. We arrived at Hendaye at 09.30 which was 15 minutes late. Not bad going I think.

So, off the bus and I walked across a bridge and in to Spain. The first cafe I came to served up breakfast and I was able to empty my bladder…coach toilets, no thanks.

I then walked just under 10km to the start of the GR11 at the lighthouse at Cape Higuer and then about 5km back in to Hondarribia where I am now.

Not wanting to break myself straight out of the gate I have two options for tomorrow. 1.stay here. 2. Walk in the rain for most of the day but don’t camp.
Number 2 sounds preferable at the moment.

A brief update for anyone still listening.

Four days done.
Rain 100% of the days.
Walked without waterproofs 25% of the days.
Camped 25% of the nights.
Rained 100% of nights camped.

The weather looks better for the next few days. I’m hoping to do three more and then have a rest day.

I won’t lie, it’s tough. I enjoy each day when it’s over. I’ll keep going and hopefully be able to utilise the tent a lot more. But I’m not camping in the rain when I can stay indoors. Tonight for example at a commercial campsite. £11 to camp or £12 for a bed in a small dormitory.

That’s it.

I’m not sure if it’s good but it definitely feels like work!

Still, only about 42 days to go….
Definitely good, you learn so much more through suffering, than you do from comfort.
Onwards and upwards and all the very best in your quest. (y)

Going through all those shit days makes you appreciate the good ones so much more. All power to you & as I’m sure you will, enjoy your trip.…

At that price you hotel it, long way to go, the weather will improve. Enjoy, don’t make it a struggle

I think that the mountains are making it a struggle 😂😂

£12 a night won’t get a bed every night. I paid £70 after the first stage so the tent and associated paraphernalia will be worth the added weight penalty…..once the weather improves of course.
