‘M off….bus wnkr hike.

I think that the mountains are making it a struggle 😂😂

£12 a night won’t get a bed every night. I paid £70 after the first stage so the tent and associated paraphernalia will be worth the added weight penalty…..once the weather improves of course.

There’s a very good reason I’ve got a single skin one person Goretex bivvy tent. It’s light.

There’s an equally good reason why I rarely use it. It’s so small you suffer from claustrophobia when you zip it up and you’re in total darkness :D

You need to close your eyes. :D
I have total and complete darkness in my bedroom with the shutters down and doors closed, it is heaven....Best sleep ever, ever , ever....
No light emitting devices, nothing, may as well be blind.(y)

Thanks for the update and pictures.
If we didn't have to walk through the rain we wouldn't appreciate the sunshine.
It will get better, I'm sure. 👍

I like the look of your tent, better than the cocoons one usually sees people carrying when they're hiking.

Yeah, I like it too. It’s an MSR Freelite 2. I’m too big for a one man at 6’2” and about 17 stone (ish).
The weight of it is pretty good at less than 1.1KG including pegs etc.

I was in it for 12 hours in the rain the other day, I don’t think that I could do that in a Bivvy Bag, although I’ve never tried one.

I agree, you need a bit of space if you’re in it for a while, nice to get organised as well while dry. My Tarptent weights about the same.

Just been reading about the tent here. Looks excellent and relatively reasonably priced as well.

Someone pm’d me asking about GPS.

My reply:-

I’ve got a Garmin Inreach Mini which tracks where I am. I can track back with it if I get lost….apparently.

Navigation is by red and white painted flashes on trees, rocks and posts etc.
I’ve also got Mapy.cz with a red line..if in doubt.

There you go. One from this morning leaving Buguete headed to HiriBerri. It’ll take me slightly longer than the posted time I reckon.

I’ve stopped on Obara, an hour shy of Hiriberri (is that Halle Berri’s Spanish cousin do you think?) do lunch.
Talk about hitting the jackpot…it is absolutely lush!!

I will hopefully get more interesting photos as the scenery opens up, I’ve walked in forest, rain or cloud mainly up until now.

Thanks for following. Appreciated and it does help too.

I like that they show you estimated time.
They seem to agree there or there abouts with the Cicerone guide book that I’m carrying (320 grams ish!!).

I’m not chasing the times, it takes what it takes, but I seem to be not much slower so it is helping me plan my days a bit.

Obviously they are walking times not including time to stop and eat sausage or cheese 😁

A couple of pics for you on the subject of navigation.

Red and white flashes…go this way.
Red and white X….dont go that way.

There is another one for change of direction which I’ll try and remember to photograph tomorrow if there is one…hopefully I’ll see it if there is.

A screen shot from my Garmin tracker trace so far…minus day one as I didn’t turn it on/didn’t know I hadn’t/should’ve paid more attention to it before setting off.

A bit like never trying the new rucksack and taking a couple of days to get it adjusted and feeling like ‘my’ backpack.

Looks an effective but simple signage system, thanks for posting. Thanks for the Garmin pic too. Are you doing a similar route to the one Michael Portillo sort of did on his recent TV series?
Have a good day today, hopefully the weather will continue to pick up.

I didn’t see the Micheal Portillo series so I’m not sure. I haven’t got yellow trousers or a Bradshaw’s guide though.
The route is the GR11
